I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to spend one night in the Pont du Gard area and visit the site and the town of Uzes.
Thoughts?
(The other option would be to spend one night in Annecy or Aix les Baines)
Thanks!

How would this fit in with the rest of your itinerary?
Uzes and Aix Les Bains are over 300km apart.
I thought the Pont du Gard was great. Nice place for a picnic, or even a swim in the summer.
Henry James:
The hugeness, the solidity, the unexpectedness, the monumental
rectitude of the whole thing leave you nothing to say – at the time –
and make you stand gazing. You simply feel that it is noble and
perfect, that it has the quality of greatness ... When the vague
twilight began to gather, the lonely valley seemed to fill itself with
the shadow of the Roman name, as if the mighty empire were still as
erect as the supports of the aqueduct; and it was open to a solitary
tourist, sitting there sentimental, to believe that no people has ever
been, or will ever be, as great as that, measured, as we measure the
greatness of an individual, by the push they gave to what they
undertook. The Pont du Gard is one of the three or four deepest
impressions they have left; it speaks of them in a manner with which
they might have been satisfied.
Not only is it worth the trip, but it's also an even more impressive monument in person than you can imagine from photos or videos. No risk of disappointment in my opinion.
The Pont du Gard is absolutely worth it! I encourage you to take the tour that allows you to walk through the passageway at the very top. It was amazing!
I also spent two nights in Uzes last fall and would highly recommend it. It is a very beautiful town and extremely enjoyable to wander through.
We took a bus there from Avignon and took a train another day to spend the day in Nimes. Overall, it depends how it fits into your itinerary. We were glad to see it.
Yes! On a recent trip, I had almost considered skipping Pont du Gard because I thought I might have seen enough Roman ruins for a while. I am really glad I did decide to go. As others mention, the size and scale is more than expected. The scenery is nice and there is opportunity for hiking and outdoor activity. I also spent much more time in the museum than I had expected. Uzes is a lovely town to stay in -- I enjoyed 3 nights there.
To reiterate everyone else, YES, the Pont du Gard is worth it. The scale and size are so impressive and jaw-dropping. We visited one summer, had a picnic, and swam in the river while gazing up at the aqueduct.
to me the Pont du Gard like Mont St. Michel is one of the most amazing sights on earth; definitely more important than yet another medieval down. I was lucky enough to do this 30 years ago when you could walk across the top; we walked one way on top and then returned through the water course. I think it is more restricted today (it was incredibly dangerous so I am not surprised it is tighter now.). Then we stayed at a hotel, no longer open, where we literally had the bridge stretched across our window; the best hotel room view of my lifetime -- stunning in the moon light. The Pont du Gard is a must if you are in the area IMHO.
Thank you for all the replies! It sounds like we should add it to our itinerary!
jeanm, we are travelling from Chamonix and have one night to figure out before we can check into our hotel in Provence, near Rossillon. So, we were thinking that we'd drive from Chamonix to Uzes and see that village and the Pont du Gard. Then the following day we could head east towards Rossillon where we have a hotel reservation nearby.
The other thought was to leave Chamonix and spend a night in Aix les Baines (or Annecy). Then the next day drive south into Provence and not try to see the Pont du Gard or Uzes.
But it sounds like we should do plan A!
