My husband and I have just book a trip to France in July to join the rest of my family in Vers-Pont-du-Gard, Avignon et Provence, for a big family celebration, however before we head down south my husband (Jason) is giving a seminar at the University of Rouen France. The University is organizing and paying for our transportation to and accommodations in Rouen for one night. While Rouen sounds like an interesting place for me to spend a day while Jason is working, I’m trying to figure out if I can make a side trip to see the Canadian memorial in Vimy. Here’s the kicker, we are arriving in Paris on July 14th at 9:30 am, and yes we’re aware that it’s Bastille Day, Jason’s seminar is first thing in the morning on the 15th and we’re hoping to get back to Paris that evening so we can spend two nights in there before heading down south. The trip to Vimy is something I have always wanted to do and if it meant spending a night there instead of Rouen I would be totally up for it, however the logistic of figuring out travel on the 14th and then hooking back up with Jason on the 15th has become a little overwhelming.
Any help/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Katie
I'll assume you arrive at CDG Airport on the 14th. From there you can take a direct TGV train to Arras at 1.07pm, gets you there before 2. From there you are close to Vimy: you can take a cab, there is no public transport I believe. You would have to sleep in Arras that evening, it's a nice town, then there is a stupidly early direct train to Rouen at 6:33am, or you could simply head back to Paris later in the day and meet up with your husband there (all other times you will see for Rouen route you via Paris which is inconvenient).
Thank You for the info Balso, its a great help. Cheers katie
