We fly into Nice, pick up rental and drive to Lorgues for the first half of our trip. Second half we will be staying in Villefranche-sur-Mer. We’d like to not have the rental car for the second half as we likely won’t use it. Where’s the best area to drop off rentals knowing we aren’t flying out? Nice airport, train station or downtown? We can use public transportation or uber to Villefranche-sur-Mer.
We have used Nice airport to pick-up/ drop off cars several times. The location is very easy to use.It is on the edge of downtown but not in it.
I second the airport. The main train station is in central Nice. Traffic/driving through or in Nice proper is not for the faint of heart. A wrong turn landed me in the city instead of on the ring road/motorway, and it was not a pleasant experience for me.
I have dropped off at both the Nice airport and Nice train station and would suggest dropping at the airport. We actually had a very minor accident when trying to drop at the train station. As others said it's in the center of the city and lots of traffic in that area.
It is rather easy to drop off at the airport, as others noted. The rental car facility is in Parking P5 and there is a short walk to Terminal 2 where you can get a taxi, uber/bolt or take the tram two stops to the Grand Arenas station (I believe it is still free to this stop), where you can pick up the train to Villefranche sur Mer. The choice of transport may depend on where you are staying in Villefranche-sur-Mer. It is quite steep (a lot of steps) from the train station and port/village area up the hill. You could also drop off everyone and their bags (if you are up the hill somewhere) and return the car alone (and take the train/tram/bus back -- the bus drops off mid hill)
