Is easyJet... "easy" or...?

I want to book a flight from Bordeaux to Lisbon (7/9/24) and my head is spinning! To start, understanding their baggage requirements... can anyone tell me what is true (both these quotes are on the easyJet website):

"A standard hold bag is 23kg. You can buy extra weight in 3kgs units, up to a maximum of 32kg per bag." OR

" Each item you check-in as hold luggage has to be under a standard weight of 20kg per bag. Except for sporting and medical equipment."

Also, do they still require masks and proof of current Covid tests or are these videos obsolete but still floating around on YouTube?

Thank you for your help with this. :o}

The weight allowance is quite generous either way.
20 kg= 44 pounds and 23 kg =50.6 pounds.

I can’t imagine that when you add the weight of the allowed carryon which is generally at least 17 pounds— that the 44 pound allowance for the checked bag is not enough. That’s about 61 pounds combined. Oh, and the personal item allows for packing even more weight.

And lugging around that much weight is asking to be injured!

If you visit www.Skyscanner.com you can see all your flight options and fares. Skyscanner also provides a comprehensive link to all the Airlines’ weight and dimension restrictions for luggage and carryons.
It looks like the Flexi-Fare is the way to go for $137 because the other Standard Fare does NOT include a carryon or a checked bag. You will get hit with surcharges if you have anything other than your Personal Item.

There currently are not any Covid test or mask requirements in Europe that I’m aware of.

Have a great trip!

I flew Easy Jet three weeks ago.

The correct allowance for hold luggage is 23 kg.

No Covid test or mask needed. If you want to know the current rules, always look at the official website and don't rely on Youtube videos.

It is correct that the standard weight hold bag is 23kg, but for less money you can choose 15kg, and for more money you can increase to 26kg, 29kg or 32kg.

You will be offered 15, 23 or 26 automatically. For other weights choose the 'Add a different weight bag' button. or the 'add sports equipment' bag.

Once you go through the booking process they give you all the options for added extras so it will become clear then. The app is extremely easy to use. I fly with them a few times a year usually.

The budget airline model is to offer very cheap basic fares and then make money on selling extras. I usually manage with the free underseat bag and don’t bother booking seats which makes the trip very cheap.

I do find EasyJet easy. They provide lots of options so you can tailor what you buy to what you need

Easy jet is easy and the rules on luggage are very clear -- it is important to follow them -- it is important to buy your hold luggage allotment in advance and to adhere to the carry on limits -- but if you do all that, it works fine. The hold luggage limits are higher now than when I flew 10 or 15 years ago and had to squeeze into a 20 k limit and a very low carry on limit on a 6 week trip when we were carrying books and all the gear for two seasons. We still could do it.

Difference was 10 years ago they didn’t charge you extra for that carry on bag. They do now. The only included bag is now a small underseat bag.

I also find EasyJet easy. We've taken the flight from Bordeaux to Lisbon a few times on EasyJet. No masks were required nor covid tests. You will fly out of the Billi area of Bordeaux airport, which is a bit chaotic and you feel like cattle being hearded into the pen. But that is the worst part of it. The flights, flight attendants, etc. all great. Make sure you understand their baggage requirements/limits as they are strict. I will definitely fly them again.

It is not true that all budget carriers in Europe are like RyanAir. Most are not. Easyjet are not.

I avoid Ryanair and will pay more for EasyJet on the same route. They take no frills to a new level.
