Is air conditioning a must have for early July in a Paris AirBnB?

I’ve noticed in AirBnB listings that there are far more listings with air conditioning than without it. Is a/c preferred in early July?

Always go for a/c in Europe in the Summer unless the place is at very high elevation or very far north. Paris is neither.

If you need (and I mean need not want) A/C at home in July, then yes you should probably make sure you have it in Paris in July. It all depends on you. I'm one of those that does not absolutely need A/C (I'm fine with a fan) so I was fine without it in August in Paris - it would have been nice but not necessary. If you feel you might be hot and miserable without it if the temps get into the 90's, then definitely make sure you have it.

If possible, go with A/C! We were in Paris late last June into the beginning of July. Our Airbnb had no A/C. It was on the ground floor. Paris was experiencing very unusual temperatures in the upper 90's during our stay. We were pretty miserable trying to sleep at night even with a couple of fans.

For me, yes. I’m miserable when it’s in the 80s 😂 I’ve been in Paris many times in July when it’s in the 90s and 100s. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

If you can't find a place you like with AC, next best is to pack a little USB fan in your luggage. Very small, very cheap and readily available, at least at www.aliexpress.com

Peter,

I've found that A/C is necessary even in September, so IMO it will definitely be necessary in July. At that time of year, I wouldn't book a hotel without it!

Looks like the voting is in favor of A/C, for the reasons already given. Another reason is that lodging that doesn't offer A/C also probably doesn't have window screens in the guest rooms, so if you don't have A/C and it turns out to be hotter than you like for sleeping, and you open the windows, you could have an insect problem.

Yes.

I need more characters before I can leave a response, but the simple answer is

Yes.

Probably yes, if you feel the need for aircon.

However, don't expect it to be quiet or efficient if you're renting an airbnb appartment, and definitely don't expect window screeens. Neither of them are common in France, and the aircon is likely to be a plug in portable unit that pumps the air out through an open window. Even a relatively modern apartment block wont have inbuilt aircon.

For the record, I have never had a/c in Paris, but there have been a couple of days in the past 10 years where it felt necessary.

I was in Paris for much of last summer and it was OPPRESSIVELY hot. Definitely rent a place with AC. One can't predict the weather but not having it during a heat wave is miserable.

I spent all of June in Paris last year and didn’t need ac, weather was pleasant except for one day, which was in the 90s, but it cooled off at night thankfully.

As i posted above, July-Sept, i would want ac.

I personally would not rent an apartment or stay in a hotel without it .
I don’t have it at home - but our summers tend to be more moderate - a few hot days ( over 80 ) but never near 90 !!! Plus where I live one can open their windows and not deal with street noise ( which in Paris can be 7 am garbage trucks , not just noise at night )

I have rented three apartments in Paris - one did have excellent built in ac - the other two had the window type - which while not as efficient , certainly made the room livable !!!

Chances are that in June the temperature will be warm to hot, July even more so. It can be a broiler....very true in the upper 80F and 90F. If you're used to AC, then I suggest getting it

Most likely I'll be in Paris, if not in June, which I'm aiming for, then early July, depending on the unpredictable schedule here. My 2 star hotel has no AC,... I don't need it.

Keep in mind too, how long the summer days are in Paris. In a heat wave there isn't much cooling off at night. Also cement and stone construction absorbs heat and even the metro gets hot. Buses have no AC. I've never been comfortable with leaving windows open at night when there are no screens. For all of those reasons, I go back to Florida AC and a pool for summer.

It is a must but you will almost certainly not find good AC in an AirBNB. The portable units are unpleasant and inefficient and in our experience musty. Often buildings do not allow nighttime use of AC because of the noise. You will be lucky to find a place with decent central AC. I would always use a hotel in summer for this reason.

Have literally never had A/C while staying in France, and we've always stayed during warm months. It seems like "unusually warm" summers are more usual now, and you might well be uncomfortable without A/C. But it's hard to find, and most of France lives without it, so everyone else will be uncomfortable too.

If you have a particular AirBnb in mind, check the reviews to see how others have fared during warm stretches. Often the host will provide a fan or two, which definitely would be essential without A/C.

Of course, if you have the budget for a hotel, you can avoid the uncertainty.

"Have literally never had AC while staying in France...." Likewise. I have always been in France during the summer months, ie anytime from May to the entire month of August. True, it can be a broiler and it was at times when I was there. But no AC, I'm not paying extra for it in a hotel.
