Is a 7-minute transfer from Mulhouse to a train for Basel possible?

I booked a TGV ticket from gare de Lyon to Basel via Mulhouse,

and I just realized that the transfer time in Mulhouse is only 7 minutes.

Is that enough time to make the connection?

If I miss the train, will I have to pay an additional fee to get a new ticket?

Use your phone/watch and get by the door with your luggage prior to pulling into the station, be ready to hop off. Seven minutes is really a lot of time if you are prepared. Figure out what track your next train departs from and go there quickly. These days the trains are listed over your head on a TV type screen. I've hand 90 second connections, so 7 minutes would be just fine. J

What date is this trip? Is the train you are transferring to a TER (French regional train)? In general, there is a TER from Mulhouse to Basel every 30 minutes, so if you missed it due to a late arriving train, just take the next one.

In Switzerland, 7 minute train connection are fairly standard. It is the rail company not wasting your time by making you hang around a train station more than necessary.

It's on May 24th, [TER 96123].
If I miss the train, can I just take the next one without a new ticket, or do I need to speak to someone at the ticket counter first?

Uh Oh, What are your connecting trains. Are you starting from Lyon St Exupery? At 8:55 am?

I am afraid you are going to Paris, then turning around and coming back to Mulhouse.

PS or when you say Lyon, do you mean Paris Gare de Lyon?

Phew, you had me worried for a minute. The next train to Basel is at 14:46. That one is an "express", making only one other stop before Basel, so it arrives in Basel only 18 minutes after the one you are booked on now.

Mulhouse station isn't especially big - six to eight platforms linked by a footbridge. Unless you have huge amounts of luggage seven minutes will be fine. There are lots of trains between Mulhouse and Basel and its a relatively short trip, so if you don't make the connection you won't be stranded.
