Indoor heating in Paris

At this time one year ago, there were heating (gas use) restrictions and hotels & apartments etc were kept at 64 F. Are such restrictions still in place? Or are we more likely to see overly heated public and private indoor spaces? This is to help me pack as light as possible : ) Thank you.

Those restrictions were mere guidelines, they never applied. 64F is cold.
This being said, 66-68F is a very typical heating temperature for hotels and apartments and I would not expect any hotter. That's how warm I keep my own flat.
Edited to add that stores are indeed much warmer.

Someone pulled your leg to avoid providing adequate heat. There are not such restrictions. You will probably find shops, grocery stores, department stores etc grossly overheated -- restaurants a toss up -- but not 64.

The government did ask people to keep residences and offices at a quite low temperature this time last year due to energy grid concerns, but as Baldo rightly notes, they never went so far as to mandate it. But someone who chose to do that was adhering to what the French government was requesting of people in order to help avoid overloading the grid during a time of energy supply concerns.

This year the electricity supply is more robust, so we haven't heard anything about these kinds of requests being made again this year.

I find that the French prefer the interiors at wintertime to be hot and stuffy. I find it's best to dress in layers.

I have been in Paris for a week now, staying in a private apt in Le Marais so i can’t speak about hotels. It has been 28* during the day for several days. Monday to yesterday it snowed. It was 35* for a couple days during the day before the 28* days. It is bone chilling cold here. I have not found any interior space (cafés, restaurants, boutiques, pharmacies, dept stores, grocery stores, etc) to be too warm. On the contrary, no place i have been has been warm inside, and everyone keeps their coat on, or at least their multi-layers with cashmere sweaters/scarves/hats to top off the layers, on. Had coffee with a friend at Les Deux Magots yesterday, in their main dining room, it was not warm, and everyone kept their coats on.
They also had mice scurrying around looking for food/warmth. For fans of Roussillon, they had several mice scurrying around today too… but i digress, lol.
Had coffee inside Carette at Place des Vosges, and again, everyone kept their coats on.
So no, it is not hot inside any place i’ve been, not even warm enough.

Edit: 1/13… ok, i’m in BHV now, packed with people on a Saturday with Sales happening, and this is the 1st place i’ve had to take my coat off… very warm in here. Finally… : )

Thanks for confirming that I do not want to head to Europe north of the Alps in the winter!

The current sub-freezing daytime temperatures are unusual and the heating in most places can't really cope...
Never saw mice at cafés though, yikes!

If you're the type who is always cold (I know someone like that), assume you'll always be cold. I was in Paris in December and guess what, it was cold and rainy but that is what I expected. I have a waterproof heavy parka that sits in my hall closet between Europe trips. I wore it to a business meeting in London and they were quite amused, but at least I was warm.
