Increased Departure Taxes from French Airports as of March 1

Hello all - France has increased its "solidarity" departure taxes for flights departing from French airports as of March 1.

You may or may not notice this in your ticket cost, but it is there! Some increases are small, some are rather hefty.

For tickets in economy class:
The departure tax for tickets for French or European destinations will be €7.40, increased from the previous tax of €2.63.
The departure tax for intermediate-distance flights will be €15, from the previous €7.51.
The departure tax for long-distance flights (over 5,500 km) will be €40, up from the previous €7.51.

For tickets in business class or above:
The departure tax for tickets for French or European destinations will be €30, increased from the previous tax of €20.27.
The departure tax for intermediate-distance flights will be €80, from the previous €63.07.
The departure tax for long-distance flights (over 5,500 km) will be €120, up from the previous €63.07.

If you booked your return today, the taxes are in the fare.

They going to effect on March 1. The airlines have known about them for a while, and have already started collecting them.

Indeed, they were in the budget draft as of last fall so most airlines have been collecting them for tickets for flights departing March 1 or later for a while.

When it looked like the measure might fall out of the draft budget, though, some airlines stopped collecting. So now Transavia is going to ask its customers who booked during the “in-between” time (who are traveling as of today or later) to pay the difference. Air France has said it will just “absorb” the cost — in other words, it will pass the cost on to us in different ways. I don’t know what other airlines did / are doing.

My understanding is on February 15 the airlines were told this was definitely going to be in effect and so any tickets bought since that time would obviously have it in it. Now as to whether they did that earlier, I don’t know because if they had collected it before it was officially in effect and it didn’t get passed they could’ve had to pay refunds

I changed the ticket to Paris early last week and I just looked at the receipt and the saw the tax is in there and it is in there at the right amount as of March 1.
