Ile-sur-la-Sorgue Market - Thursday or Sunday?

Hi all,
For reasons I won't get into now (stay tuned for my itinerary post, a work in progress), it is more convenient to go to Ile-sur-la-Sorgue on Thursday than Sunday - albeit Sunday is not impossible.

RS says Sunday market is more outstanding, lots of antiques. I will probably be looking more than buying (can't imagine shipping antiques from France!). Is it worth our shifting things around to go on Sunday?

We will be there in late July, so I know crowds will be a factor, possibly worse on Sunday - thoughts?

Thank you all,
Rachel

We have been to the market in Ile-sur-La-Sorgue on both Thursday and Sunday. I recommend going on Thursday. It was much more enjoyable. The crowds on Sunday were outrageous! It took us a looong time to find parking, and it wasn't enjoyable trying to fight our way through the crowds. The market is certainly large enough on Thursday with all kinds of wares; we bought lots of ceramics. I don't really remember if there were a lot of antiques because we weren't looking for those. My son-in-law, who is French, came with us on Sunday, and he told us he will never return on a Sunday again.

Oh, soooo helpful! Now we don't have to juggle our schedule around to get there on Sunday. Thanks so much,
Rachel

The antiques dealers are open Thursday through Monday every week. So far as I know their availability would be pretty much the same on Thursday as on Sunday. The Thursday general “market” is smaller by about half from Sunday. I can’t say for sure but this might make the antique market a bit less crowded on Thursday simply because there are fewer people in town overall. Of course if it is the general market that is of interest to you, then Sunday is much superior.

Most of the antique dealers I saw on Sunday in 2017 were not at booths; they were in buildings. In many cases signs indicated the dealers were only open on weekends (possibly including Friday). Folks expecting antiques are likely to be disappointed if they go on Thursday. That said, much of what I saw in the antuque shops was bulky stuff most tourists wouldn't consider buying (furniture, mirrors, etc.).

Merci encore, blattner and acraven. I am not so much of an antiques shopper anyway, and it would mostly be like a visit to a museum, rather than a shopping trip. Smaller things are more up my alley and of course, food. And the less crowded, the better. So I will stick with Thursday for that, and keep my other plans in place.
