We are thinking to fly into Geneva at the end of June for an eastern FR tour. Would you recommend staying 2 nights in Annecy, FR or Lausanne, CH. Both look wonderful. We would then likely rent a car and head to the Burgundy area. Or train to Burgundy and get a car there. Thanks in advance!
I haven't been to Lausanne, but Annecy is wonderful. And it's easy to get there by bus from Geneva.
Thank you Robert!
I have been to Lausanne, and I must say the next town down the lake, Vevey, is vastly superior. It is more walkable, charming, less commercial, and much less crowded. Check it out!
I used to work in Lausanne. I'd go to Annecy.
Erika,
I haven't yet visited Annecy, but having been to Lausanne in September my suggestion would also be Annency. While Lausanne is a beautiful city, I think there are better options in that area.
Wow, it's practically unanimous! A big thanks to everyone! Any particular 'must sees' in Annecy? Or is the whole town equally a 'must'?
The "old town" center. The lake (one can't miss that), including a walk part way around it. An outdoor market in the center if there is one the days you're there. If you want the link to my travel blog, which has several entries for Annecy, send me a message; the forum rules don't allow posting such links (I've had mine removed before).
The recommended hike in RS guide that includes the boat ride is great. In general, the town is delightful.
