I'm looking at train tickets from Paris to Nice, and I noticed that the iDTGV tickets are significantly cheaper than the regular TGV. I've searched for info about this on this website and found that most of the information is several years old. Before I purchase these much less expensive tickets, I'd like to know if anyone here has purchased them, and if there is any downside or "gotcha's" to using them. I am aware of the iDZEN and iDZAP areas. Thanks!
iDTGV is just a brand for high-speed services with less frills. There are luggage restrictions and sales are only through the Internet as far as I know.
Little to no downside unless you can't use them.
If they are offered I jump down their necks and bite their arm off.
the only difference I've ever found is that you can only MODIFY the tickets via the internet -- i.e. no going back to the station and asking if you can have an earlier/later departure. If you can find the tickets you want at the price and time you want, go for it!
We used idTGV a few yrs ago for Paris to Nice. Cheaper then tgv. We got first class tickets in an izen car.
After chatting to some Americans in our car who purchased their tickets only a few weeks before trip, we discovered we paid 44 euros each. They had paid 100 euros each!
Thanks so much for all the replies. I purchased our iDTGV tickets last night - 36 euro each in 2nd class. If I had been thinking, I would have spent the extra 10 euro each for first class :-)
