I am shopping for train TGV tickets on Voyages-sncf.com. The same train is listed twice. Once as iDTGV and once as TGV. Same train, same ticket, different prices. iDTGV is about 15 euros less. Anyone have an explanation?
It's just a discounted ticket. Lucky you.
Yeah there is another new company I bought tickets with TGV Service called Ouigo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouigo
The French government introduced this to counter the perceived monopoly on rail service held by SNCF.
Actually, Jazz--all TGV service will be renamed OUIGO by the SNCF soon. It was announced on the France2 news a couple of weeks ago. I thought of posting about the name change but forgot. This will probably cause a lot of confusion for a while. Thanks for mentioning it.
Yes, iDTGV is a "subset" of the TGV on certain routes. It goes on sale earlier, and has lower prices. You choose between "Zen" (quiet car) and Zap (not quiet car). You're right, it's the same train (the iDTGV cars are painted differently from the other cars, but are attached to the rest of the train).
So, as Bets said, take advantage of the discount while you can!
