Ideas for a visit to Lille

Will find myself alone in Lille for two days. Looking for recommendations for things to do and see (besides visiting cafes). Shopping, off-the beaten path sights and places to stay. Merci!

The Musée des Beaux-Arts is one of the best in France. Certainly worth a visit.

Notre-Dame de la Treille is both modern and old. I love it.

I recommend either the Hôtel Bellevue or Mercure Grand Place but there is a new Océania that opened up that looks great.

Lille is a gem.

Additionally, Roubaix is worth a side trip for the La Piscine museum, and the Villa Cavrois in Croix is a gem if you are interested in 20th c. architecture.

We did the two visits Balso suggests above and they were both fascinating. Easy to visit La Piscine on public transport and not difficult to add Villa Cavrois although we were lucky to have someone driving us.

Absolutely, La Piscine is a must and it's easy to visit either by métro or by tramway.
