Ibis hotels can be compared with "Motel 6" in the US.
Simple, practical and sometimes good.
A metro station is very close.

Ibis is a two-star in the Accor chain: efficient, clean, equivalent to a Travelodge. Accor's one-star equivalent to Motel 6 is the Formula 1. Ibis Budget is between the two, while Ibis Styles are indepent hotels or chains that Accor has bought in recent years and put under the Ibis umbrella. We often stay in Ibis.

I don't think RS usually lists chain hotels.

The Ibis chain has been very dependable for us in those situations where we needed a room somewhere for only 1 or 2 nights. We have used the "red" versions. Rooms clean, bed comfortable, and really, how much do you need if this is just for sleeping/showering? Breakfast buffets vary by location, but are a real time-saver and you can eat enough to need little until dinner.

Recently stayed at the Ibis in Southampton, UK, and it was fine. The room was small but well equipped, there was a dining room and a bar and free newspaper in the morning (The Independant). The front office staff, young and friendly, responded quickly to requests. The only downside was that looking out the window of our room was the looming view of McDonald's and Friday's. I hated that.

Rick's France book does recommend the Ibis chain in general, particularly for drivers around the country, or when you find good deals on their web sites, and/or when the specific property is central to sightseeing. We also list quite a few specific locations of this brand in different chapters, including Paris. This one is just a bit outside the area where we focus our research. It looks quite handy to Metro, which is always a consideration.

My experience of Ibis hotels is beyond basic -- the last one we stayed in was literally in a bridge over the interstate with trucks rumbling below us all night and the bed was molded into the floor. They are cheap and clean and if you like the location, why not.

I have stayed at that very Ibis. Several years ago but it won't have changed too much.

My memories -

It is an Ibis, what do want for that price?

It is pig ugly on the outside, but fine on the inside, and when you are inside you don't see the outside.

Everything we needed, and nothing that we didn't, was in the room and it worked very well for us for several days.

They used to do café au lait the proper way. I have no idea if they still do.

Very very convenient to Métro and that part of town.

We haven't been been back because we stay in different parts of Paris now but we certainly would if we were over that part.

I too have stayed at that very IBIS. No charm, no character, but clean well managed comfortable and convenient. Think Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn Express. Right on the Metro too.

If you stay there, you are not far from 29 Avenue Rapp. If you like Art Nouveau, don't miss seeing this building - fantastic. As a bonus, if you take a picture of the front door from the right vantage point, you get a reflection of the Eiffel Tower - two for one!

Harold , thanks for the heads up for 29 Avenue Rapp . I have a veritable trunk full of photos of Art Nouveau buildings from St Petersburg , Helsinki , and Tallinn so far , and I'll bring a CD of them for you to the December meeting . Best wishes , Sue and Steve

So, J.S., did you decide to stay there? If not, where?

Can't speak to that location, but I stayed at the Ibis Gare du Nord Chateau Landon over in the 10th. For sure, Ibis is not the Ritz Carlton - but the prices are usually very good. The Ibis I stayed at in Paris was clean, had air-conditioning, an elevator, soundproofing on the windows and, if I had wanted it, a full breakfast buffet (for a fee) every morning in the lobby. My room, in particular, had an awesome view of Sacre Couer.

Probably the closest thing I could actually think of that wasn't the greatest (but by no means was it a deal breaker), was the bathroom was a little on the small side (but it's Paris - so I expect the room to be, overall, similar to what I would end up with if I stayed in a budget hotel in NYC) and there was no closet - just a small bar with a couple of hangers. I kept most of my clothing in my suitcase.

I would not compare them to a Motel 6. I think if you had to compare an Ibis to another budget hotel chain, it would be something close to a Comfort Inn.

I don't understand. There are 3,845 reviews for this specific hotel on TripAdvisor. Isn't that enough to make a decision?

Ive stayed at the Ibis CDG 2x and will stay again in January. Also the one in Montmartre overlooking the Montmartre cemetery. Obviously i approve, but only for 1 or 2 nights. they are too small and charmless to stay for longer than that.

I've done Ibis many times, as well as Ibis Styles because I am an Accor Member. Usually the service is excellent and the accommodations are clean and dependable. The Ibis Styles hotels are a little prettier to look at (and include a small breakfast). I particularly like the standard Ibis breakfasts (you must pay for it, but it's quite a spread). They also have good restaurants, too. I've stayed at the Ibis Centre Cathedrale in Chartres several times and it's become a chez moi. While Ibis may be in the same price group at a Travelodge, I think they're much nicer. I'd put it more on the level of a Quality Inn.

I can't speak for the hotel but can speak for the area. We just stayed at an Airbnb and the ibis was right around the corner (like, a 30 sec walk thru an alley). It is only a minute walk from the cambronne metro stop. You are about a ten minute walk to the Eiffel Tower depending on how fast you walk. We walked almost everywhere. I went out at 3:30 am to see the blood moon/eclipse that happened - by myself (hubby was sleeping) and didn't feel unsafe. There is a nice bakery just a minute down the street with yummy pain au chocolat and lots of restaurants. They had a board out front with the going rate at 115€ a night.

Stayed at this Ibis a few years ago. Hotel rooms are fine, location is ok as well. I stayed in this area many times. Hotel Europa was down the same street but by 3 metra lines. The opposite way I stayed at a Best Western, also decent. There is a web site where you can put in the metro line and it lists the hotels in the area. I like the 15th for real life Paris location.
