We stayed in the Ibus Budget in Amboise. It was fine for one night. The rooms are tiny but very efficiently layed out. It felt like staying in an economy class ship room. But the Amboise Ibis Budget was set off in a quiet area so, we could open the window and get fresh air. Just looked at some pictures of the Bayeux hotel. It certainly looks new. And the price is good! You'd obviously need to drive to sites and restaurants, but it would be OK for just sleeping.

Yes, and it was clean, quiet, convenient to highway, pretty good breakfast buffet. As Becky noted you need to drive to everything -- there's ONE restaurant in the office park. Not a place for after-dinner strolling.

David - will you have a car? I would recommend a hotel near the center of Bayeux (a rather small town) There is a public parking lot on the main square and it right across the street from Hotel d'Argouges. A couple blocks down the street is the Hotel Churchill.

I prefer the small local hotels .... so that is why I would recommend these 2.
If you are on the train, you can grab a cab at the station to take you into the center of town.
Bayeux is small and very walkable.
Hope you have a great trip.

Sorry David I see that I already posted the names of these 2 hotels on your other post on Bayeux.

I have stayed in other Ibis properties, all very good value for the money, basic but reliable.

Thanks to all for great suggestions. We will be renting a car from Caen to tour D-Day beaches and Mont St Michel, so I narrowed it down to the Ibis or the Hotel Mogador.

Beware the Ibis Budget hotels. They are less than Ibis. I stayed at the Ibis Budget in Colmar - awful. It was a lot smaller than a cruise ship cabin, nowhere to rest a suitcase except on the floor or the bed. And the shower was a stall inside the room. When you opened the shower door you were in the bedroom, so the only possibility was to exit the shower naked and wet to grab a towel. I read the reviews carefully before booking this, but none mentioned any of the inconveniences. It was cheap, so I guess it depends on what your expectations and standards are.

I have often stayed at "regular" Ibis hotels and never been disappointed.

Hi
I have stayed at the Ibis and found it to be great value for money. It was a basic modern building with little charm but was clean, quiet with an inexpensive and good breakfast. It is in a rural industrial park and is easy to find near main roads with free parking.
If you have a car and are going to be out seeing the sights all day, the hotel is fine and should save you both time and money.

We've stayed in Ibis Budget Hoels ( formerly called Hotel Etap) but the shower opened into the bathroom, unlike Chani's experience. In fact, the whole bathroom was a molded modual placed in the room, That said, for Bayeaux, we had a car and went big-time staying at the Ibis in the next town, 10k from Bayeaux. I'm not always big on quaint hotels but go for standardized, clean, and value. The Ibis Budget has a very basic breakfast with watery coffee, while the Ibis has breakfast with a lot of variety and good coffee--all made in an industrial kitchen somewhere.
