I've got the France itch...anyone else?

I haven't been on the forums for quite awhile. I had my 4th trip planned to France in June 2015, a solo trip for my 30th birthday. I would have been 5 months pregnant, and I didn't end up going because I didn't feel well at all. Then my husband and I planned to go with the baby this past May but it seemed like too much (I am glad we didn't, although now we are moving to Hong Kong in October!). I still want to do my solo trip (my life dream) when my son is a bit older.

Do you guys like Paris in January? It'll be my 4th trip there. My son will be 15 months old by then. I'll just go for 6 nights. His grandma and dad will be with him back at home. I am okay with the cold, I grew up in Denver, Colorado. I don't like the cold, but I can handle it since I have been there several times in May and June. I'd like to experience Paris in a different season. I just can't wait to go back! Thinking about it all the time lately. Where is your next trip?

I have been to Paris many times in different seasons including December. It was cold/rainy and completely different to May/June which are far warmer. The amount of tourists will be far less so easier to get into the major museums etc.

My girlfriend and I are going back in October (can't wait)

Absolutely got the itch! I've only been home two weeks after my last trip to France and already my mind keeps wandering to ways I can get back there next year😊.

If you're really OK with handling freezing cold, wet weather, don't mind that it gets dark around 5:30 PM, and are the type of person who liked reading "Wuthering Heights" as a teenager, Paris can be a wonderfully atmospheric place in January.
You'll be pretty cold if you plan to sit on outdoor terraces, even with the heaters going full blast, but if you value your "alone time", this would be a good time to visit.
Dress appropriately - it will be much more humid than Denver, and a lot windier.

Welcome back - it is great to see you.

That sounds like a fab trip.

Don't let the cold get you down - it is nothing that some hot chocolate and a macaron or three can't cure.

We have been 3 or 4 times in January - loved it! It is a whole different experience - just dress for the weather and enjoy! We had no problems on the terraces with the heaters - many places have enclosures.

I've got a Europe itch in general! :) Re the weather, I went in December & it was around 65 degrees & sunny, so I wouldn't plan around weather. It was fabulous - hardly any crowds, Christmas markets up, ice skating, etc. January will have even less people. I had a blast going in winter!

It's not a given that it will be "freezing" cold in Paris in January. Cold, probably, but not necessarily "freezing" cold. Lived in Paris for 7 yrs and love it there in the winter (actually anytime 😊).

YES! We where in France for 2 1/2 weeks in May (1 week in Paris) and as soon as we got home started wondering when we could go back again. After a few weeks and seeing the airline prices less than what we paid for them this year, we cancelled our planned New England cruise for next year and will be going back to Paris next May for 2 weeks.

We have talked about going at some point in the fall or over Christmas, but we have to book at the time we have available for now. Hope you get back soon!

Got back from Paris & Colmar 6 1/2 weeks ago & want to return sooooooo bad. Fell in love with Paris during my first trip in October 2014 & knew I would be back in 2-years. Looking at next trip to be Switzerland or a London/Edinburgh combo, but will always have the itch/desire/need to return to Paris. Next visit would most likely be over the Christmas holiday.

I ALWAYS have the France itch! I say just go. I have been to France and specifically Paris in every other season but not winter-yet. I do think being there during the winter would be just as an awesome experience as being there any other season-just different. I live in Colorado so can tell you for sure it will be a lot more humid there than here and therefore at least "feel" colder. I still say just go for it and dress appropriately. Oh, and since you ask, my next trip is to Southern England in September.

Always. Its on my Bucket List to visit Paris during Bastille Day and also in the Fall and Winter time. And visit more of beautiful France too. There is no cure, as they say.

Nice to have you back, and congratulations on your baby boy! Paris in January -- go for it, by all means. Probably it'll be cold and maybe wet, but it's only for a week and it's a big city with lots to do inside and nice warm Metro and buses to whisk you around. Bring some layers of clothing and definitely a waterproof layer (I like a Goretex hooded parka). And good shoes with thick soles to keep your feet dry. As many have said, there's no bad weather, only wrong clothing. And as someone else said, many are cold, but few are frozen!
