I'm following "Ann Jeanne in Paris" on Facebook

Ann Jeanne in Paris hops on a Paris bus and films the bus route. Simple. Basic. I am able to see some lovely and some everyday Parisian sights.

Lately, I've simply been looking at what people in Paris, walking down the streets, are wearing. No fashionistas that I can see! They are wearing blue jeans, sneakers/running shoes, black jeans, a few white jeans, no skinny jeans/leggings and simple jackets. While my husband and I won't be in Paris until October, it's comforting to see that those on the streets of Paris dress just like we do.

Well, Lindy, the thing I noticed the last couple of weeks in Paris is that bell bottoms may be trying to make a comeback. Also saw a few young Asian guys in what I decided to call gaucho pants…you know, bell bottom capri pants, lolol! Looked cute and trendy on them but I’m not thinking I’ll rock that look!!! 😂😬😂

Lots and lots of running shoes!

I've seen a lot of gaucho pants -- kind of the worst of capris and culottes. Almost no woman looks good in them; they are one of the most unflattering cuts available. Saw two women on the metro today whom I am sure in jeans or skirts would look fine -- but in those things they looked lardy and badly proportioned -- terribly unflattering cut.

LOL Barbara! Would you believe I'm still working on that project?

Hahaha Barbara!! I think it must have been no show socks (or none) with chunky shoes.

Janet, Yes, laughing, the worst of several trends coming together. Definitely not something that works on ample hips or a meno-pot.

We just got home yesterday from the South of France and a week in Paris. (Been to Paris many times). I am a fashionista and love watching what the men and women out on the streets are wearing. Most every women wore leggings, black hose or tights under their dresses, shorts, and skirts. Personally love that look. The women are definitely into the bell bottom look, "mom" jeans, (high wasted loose fit), loads of midi-length dresses worn with either combat style boots, or sneakers, mini-dresses with combat-style boots, some jeans jackets, and a TON of pleather pants and jackets. Tons! Everyone seemed to be in black pleather.

The men to me are always stylish. Saw lots of interesting styles, but they somehow pull it off!

The one thing we noticed was all the younger women, probably 26 and down, who were trying to pull off the Emily in Paris look. Lots of berets, and just bouncy. It was fun to watch all the young girls taking selfie shots in front of the Eiffel Tower, and the poses they worked hard at. A lot would travel in groups taking turns being the photographer. Gotta love fashion. It takes all sorts of twists and turns in Paris, but love watching it!

JR thanks for the up close and personal account! The leggings are back on my packing list.

No gauchos?!

No heels/Blahniks/Choos???
Lovely that so many younger ones are having such fun. Twenty years from now, they'll be posting those photos on Rick Steve's Travel Forum.

Lindy, there were some heels, but mostly on French women who were obviously going to or leaving work. Most of the shoes we checked out were flats, sneakers, or block heels. I admired the women who so skillfully crossed those cobblestone streets in heels and managed to stay upright. I would have been on my _ _ _. In years past you didn't see much in the way of joggers or sneakers, but on this visit, it wasn't only the tourists wearing them. Seems comfort has prevailed. And yes, some gauchos, but really, mostly midi-dresses and jeans (and pleather lol).

We are in Paris right now and have been here for a month. White sneakers/canvas shoes are everywhere. Jeans, jean jackets, cute backpacks for women. Neutral (and darker last month especially) colors and always a scarf, even for men. As the number of tourists increases, I'm sure the 'fashion' choices will as well. Some women still wear heels, but most we've seen are opting for comfortable walking shoes and saving their heels for workplaces. I don't think I'd quite agree with Lindy that 'those on the streets of Paris dress just like we do.' But then, I don't know how she dresses. It's definitely more upscale than most places I've seen in the US.

Thanks for the current reports, h2ojem, and everyone else.

I'm comparing Paris dress with midtown Manhattan. So true that that does not compare elsewhere, necessarily, in the US.
I don't ever feel the need to "follow the crowd," but I was surprised by what I saw just a few days ago in Paris compared with 2019 when I was last there.
I'll be on the lookout for Pleather and gauchos!!
