I do not know how to post a new topic without duplicating.

Some of my questions do not apply to one country.
It seems my posts, in order to not be duplicated in"All Topics" . . .
must be targeted at one country.
It would be more helpful to be able to post to "All Topics."
Resources for Americans in Paris & France. eg. expat locations

I have seen other posts which apply to more than one country.

Am I not thinking logically?

Priscilla, good thought. As said, I am new to the forum.
Sometimes I need to look at what is right in front of me.

On the General Europe forum, it will help if you put the countries in the title.

Thanks Chani. Shall do. I just posted in the France forum. It did come
through to the All Topics. I'll get the hang of this.

FML17, there are already 67 (at last count) very unwieldy topic categories as it is. Because of that, we all have to read through every single thread on the forum (formerly known as the Helpline) by using the 'All Topics' method. When there were only 6 or 7 manageable categories, we could choose to focus on the 'Transportation' or 'Italy' categories and completely ignore 'Great Britain' if we so chose. But...that doesn't work well anymore.

So...'All Topics' isn't a topic category. It's just a way to view All Of The Topics, since there's no real way to pick through each and every one of the categories to view only the ones you want to read. Since shoe comfort questions are often posted under such categories as 'Slovenia Hotel Reviews' and ATM/Euro questions are found under 'Packing', this forum is a shell of its former self as far as being as helpful as it could be and easy to use...especially for those new to the forum. Maybe that's why this forum isn't called the Helpline anymore.

Anyhoo, there is no such category as 'All Topics'. But...every single thread is found by using 'All Topics'...because 'All Topics' shows all topics ;-)

So if you wanted to start a thread called 'Resources for Americans in Germany & France. eg. expat locations', you have to go through all 67 +/- categories to see which one you think best fits your question (probably 'General Europe') then post under that category...and only under that category. If you post under 'France' and 'Germany', now you have two questions going at once, and two sets of answers going at once, too. That can get confusing. It's always better to have one question in one place so that posters can answer off of one another. It's much more efficient. Plus, it keeps from cluttering the forum any more than it already is.

Clear as mud? ;-)

'All Topics' isn't the same thing as 'General Europe', although it gets interpreted that way and I can see why. 'All Topics' sounds like a general category...and I believe that many people post under any ol' category because they got to the forum through the 'All Topics' portal, so they so somehow think that they are posting their question under 'Best Walking Shoes for Travel' when they're actually in the 'Slovenia Hotel Reviews' category...as if the sorting procedure happens somewhere down the road and their question ends up under 'All Topics' and guess what? It.Always.Does! Everything always ends up under 'All Topics'!
