Hello Travelers, It appears that a TGV does not travel to Chalon. Should we take a train to Dijon and change trains for Paris? What do you suggest as the fastest route? Merci to all of you in advance! Mary Ellen & Vic
Hello Mary Ellen & Vic,
There are TGVs from Chalon-sur-Saone to Paris but only twice a day at 06:35 and 12:33.
There are also regional direct trains to Paris as well at 06:38, 08:38, 12:37, 14:38 and later – they take about one hour longer.
There are also regional trains travelling via Dijon at other times during the day
The TGV trip takes about 2:30; the longest regional trip (with changes) is 3:44.
Bon Voyage
Mary Ellen, there actually is a TGV run from Chalon-sur-Saone to Paris. Most are by regional trains but I do see one departing at 6:35am. The journey is 1hr10min faster than the regional train runs at 2hrs35min. Furthermore, I can see a non-refundable PREM fare of 15Euro on this run on certain days about 85 days out from now. Here's a link to a picture of what I see on http://en.voyages-sncf.com. http://gyazo.com/fe4c58c5d4fb15684cecbc9b1b12746e
You can buy tickets up to 90 days in advance on the French website. As you enter the website, just don't select the USA as your Ticket Collection Country. If you do, the website will try and switch you to RailEurope which you do not want. Simply select any other country. I usually select Argentina or Australia from the first window that appears. Don't worry. You don't have to go to these countries to pick up your tickets. For these particular TGV tickets, you can buy and print them out at home with minutes after the purchase. I checked and the E-ticket option is there. Don't delay. These PREM fares are limited and they don't hang around for long.
We changed in Dijon. Easy to do - we just had to change platforms. People were very helpful in making sure we got headed in the right direction.
