How to travel around paris, staying at All Suites Appart Hotel Orly Rungis, Rungis

Hello,
I am traveling with my family of 8 people this July to Paris, France. Can someone help guide me because I have a few questions:
** this is to know the best/cheap way to travel **

  1. I want to go from Trier Hbf, Germany (we will be in Wittlich, Germany for a few days) to my Hotel. What's the best way to do this? Would it be purchasing train from Goeuro, going from Trier to Orly aeroport? And then what?

  2. the best way to travel from this hotel to/from Paris to sight see for 8 people (2 seniors, 3 adults, 1 youth (22 years old) and 2 kids (5 and 2 years old)?

  3. should I purchase the bus hop on/hop off AND/or Seine cruise hop/hop off? We will be sightseeing for 2-3 days. I know that's such a limited amount of time :( Was hoping to cruise the seine river to get a different perspective of the city but not sure if its the best way to travel around.

  4. The 3rd day, I was thinking of going to Versailles. How should I travel to there?

  5. What are some places to eat with good price in Paris that you would recommend us trying?

Thank you so much! I am nervous because I am the one doing all the planning!

Not sure if my reply gets to everyone who has posted?
Hello!
Thank you for all of the replies! This is the 1st time I have posted in a forum. I"m not sure if it's a good reason, but we are planning to go to Lourdes after Paris. And when i searched on google and expedia, the flights are only coming from Orly aeroport? So, it led me to think that I should be staying in Orly to be near the airport since the cheapest flight time is at 9:10am. Please advise.

If I do find a place to stay in Paris, about how much would it cost me to go from Paris to Orly airport? And can I make it airport by 8am to make the 9:10am flight?

I don't mean to be snarky, but if you want to travel about Paris for a few days you should stay in Paris, not somewhere rather remote like out at the airport. Orly is not as far from the center of Paris as Charles de Gaulle airport, but it is still a €35 taxi fare. It would take two cabs to get your party to the center. Public transport might be cheaper, but for eight people you would have to do the numbers to be sure, and it would still be inconvenient and not straightforward.

My suggestion would be to look for inexpensive lodging closer in and close to a Metro station.

You're really far out of the city of Paris which is postal code 75----. With such a short time frame in Paris, and 8 people to herd, commuting will eat up a lot of valuable hours and money that could be spent on an apart hotel in central Paris. Cheapest isn't always the best. If at all possible even at this late date for a July trip, could you think about switching to a more central location?

I agree .. where you are staying is going to add travel time and money every day to your visit..

Also.. do not take the 2 yr old and 5 yr old to Versailles.. its terribly crowded in the palace and they will be very unhappy. When I took my daughter.. who was then 11 yr old, all she could see what the backs and bottoms of people all around us.. most unpleasant.. and you are not allowed strollers in the palace.. so you would have to carry the litte ones so no one steps on them.

A cruise is a good idea.. I do not like the hop on and off Batobus though.. stairs up and down from river to street may tire out some folks , and you would have to carry stroller up and down, its only convenient for sights right along the river, , and there is no outside deck to relax on .. it would be better to just take an actual cruise.. much better experience for all. The Hop on and off buses are fine, on a nice day I quite like sitting on top deck and getting a nice view of city as we drive around.. its not fast.. but it can be pleasant.. I would suggest the L'Open tour buses ( they are green) as they have more routes and stops and you can buy a two day pass for only a few more euros than the one day pass..

I strongly advise you to see if you can stay INSIDE Paris.. as I said you will have to spend money every day to go into city.. its a false economy to stay that far away.

First point, why are you staying at an airport hotel outside Paris, when you want to visit Paris? it would be a lot simpler for you to stay in Paris.

2) As far as I can see, you would need to get a local bus or a taxi to the nearest station (there are multiple RER stations about 2-3 Km away), and then get an RER train into Paris. This would be time-consuming and costly. The hotel website mentions a car park, but no public transport directions, its location is not designed for people travelling to Paris.

1) Trier to Paris, look up on the DB website ( https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml ). For example:

Trier Hbf dep 09:33, Saarbrücken Hbf arr 10:41
Saarbrücken Hbf dep 11:01, ICE 9556, Paris Est arr 12:50
Cost (random date in July): € 49.90

Other trains possible throughout the day. Buy from DB website, not a reseller like GoEuro.
From Paris Gare de l'Est to your hotel, RER and bus/taxi, as above.

2) Best to just use normal city buses and métro to get around. A circular bus tour with commentary may be a good idea on your first day to get your orientation.

3) Versaille is easy by RER (not the same line as goes to your hotel, into Paris and out again.

Again, I would not stay in Rungis if I was visiting Paris.

Just doing a little quick research, you are looking at travel times into the city center of approximately an hour each way, unless you get a cab, and then the travel time goes down to approximately 45 minutes each way. According to Google Maps, you will have to walk almost 20 minutes from your hotel to catch the bus into the city.

Shepherding 8 people around, including the two children, will be very difficult, and that is just getting into and out of the city. I concur with the others--find a hotel in Paris, preferably in the areas near the Seine, and you will enjoy your stay much more.

As you are a first time poster, please don't be put off by the criticism of your plans. We are just trying to help, trying to prevent you being stuck in an ugly out-of-town hotel with nothing nearby and no transport, when you could be staying in Paris.

Even if you are flying out of Orly airport, that is no reason to stay there for the whole of your stay. Your proposed hotel (website here: https://en.allsuites-apparthotel.com/hotel-residences/all-suites-appart-hotel-orly-rungis ) is some distance from Orly airport. You can get from central Paris to Orly airport easier than Paris to your hotel. It would be possible to come from central Paris and still catch your plane. Or, just stay at the airport for the last night.
But, why are you flying? You can get a train from central Paris to Lourdes in 5 hours, a lot more comfortable than flying, and door-to-door nearly as fast. There are a number of trains per day, for example:

Paris Montparnasse depart 09:48, Lourdes arrive 14:38

I really do appreciate all of the suggestions and advices! And am now looking at the places in paris.

Which website should I go to book train to Lourdes? It seems like it's not a good idea to book via Goeuro? Or Trainline? Thank you!

The usual advice is to go direct to the rail company running the trains, which is SNCF (French Railways): https://en.oui.sncf/en/
Some people have reported problems with SNCF, the site not being user-friendly or not accepting non-European cards.
The recommended alternative is https://www.trainline.eu/ which has all French trains on it (and some other countries as well) at he same prices (no markup) and is allegedly a more useable site. Trainline also covers Germany so you can use it for the Trier to Paris leg.

I recommend you read this webpage, for lots of info on French trains: https://www.seat61.com/France-trains.htm

Before you buy any tickets, tell your bank you will be making purchases on European websites, so they don't block it.

You can stay in the southern part of the city and be close to a metro station if you add Porte d'Orleans, or Porte de Versaille, or Place d'Italie, or Denfert Rochereau to you hotel search. In a few cases, you could be near playgrounds. It will be less expensive for such a large group to stay in the outer arondisements (districts), such as the 13th, 14th, or 15th. And, being in the south part of the city, it's faster to Orly for a flight.
