how to plan ahead for travel on a strike day -- Paris to Hendaye - May 8th

We have non-refundable tickets on the high speed OUI train on May 8th to Hendaye. This is definitely listed as a strike day. I can't seem to get information on whether we can cancel and get our money refunded even though the tickets say non-refundable. Our travel plans are too tight to risk not getting to San Sebastian by that night so I don't want to wait until 5:00 PM the day before to find out the status of our train. our only alternative is to rent a car and I would want to reserve this option and plan on it ahead of time.

Anyone have any advice?

You might want to see if there any cheap flights to either Biarritz or Bilbao that you could buy as an ”insurance policy”. There are regular buses from both airports to San Sebastian.

I thought about flights but they seem just as iffy since the air traffic controllers are striking too. I know the drive will be really long but at least we would be able to count on getting to our destination.

thanks for spotting that OUI info on non refundable -- somehow I missed it. we were so looking forward to that train ride....
