I want to take Rick's Basque tour, which starts in Bayonne, France. What is the best way to get there, either from the USA or Paris? Thanks, Pam
From Paris, either fly to Biarritz (flight time is a bit more than an hour) and take the bus or a taxi or take the train from Gare Montparnasse to Bayonne (5 to 5 3/4hour train trip).
We took the TGV out of Paris to Bayonne. Nice trip. Then walked to the hotel.
We flew from CDG to Biarritz then took the bus. Not really a problem, but maybe would have preferred the train. We had quite a layover at CDG and the terminal for the smaller planes we had to stay in was remote (a slow bus ride) small, extremely crowded, limited food options and had a perpetually long line for the toilets. Then another bus to the plane when it was time to go. If we had tight connection times, I'd be worried. You'd need at least an hour and a half to make it through passport control, get the bus, and then get to the plane. Still, it was a very good option. The bus dropped us within two blocks of the hotel and took 15-20 minutes. It wasn't exactly obvious which bus to take, so be sure and ask every bus driver that stops at the airport!
Shawn,
How much time would you allow between landing at CDG and arriving at the train station? I read elsewhere that the easiest way, though perhaps not the fastest, is to take Air France Coach #4 which runs from each terminal to the train station.
Thanks for your help. Lesley
