I am going to buy a chateau combo tickets from chateau Chambord a day before visiting chenonceau. Shall I still need to book a time slot for chenonceau in advance? Or I can just show up in the entry? I may need to go there in a late Sept weekday early afternoon.

This year, Chenonceau has indeed required your reserving an entry time if you want to visit its interior.
Thank you Tocard, I read this as well, but I can't find it on line how to book a time slot with a combo tickets. chenonceau's wed site doesn't have such option to do a reservation.
Yangqyus, have you tried the "Je n'ai pas réservé de créneau horaire" under "J'ai déjà un billet"??
The English page reads "Withdraw Voucher," which is a bit misleading.
