How to book an architectural tour of the Louvre?

Hello, travellers! I will be in Paris in August and having already seen quite my favourite pieces of art in the Louvre, I'd now like to take a tour of the building's history and architecture. I'm particularly interested in seeing the medieval fortress foundations built by Philip Augustus in the 12th century, which I've read you can visit in the basement. Have any of you booked a tour with an operator that you would reccommend?

Many thanks!
Greer

I don't have an answer but I'm commenting as a reminder to follow the thread. The building interests me more than the art.

There's a continuous video playing in the fortress section on its history, in case you don't find a tour guide for this.

Check with Paris Muse. We took a private tour with them a few years ago and the guide took us to some very old Roman foundations. Not sure if the same ones you seek but Ixan viych for the quality of experience so a good place to start.

I booked a private Louvre tour through Paris-Walks and specifically asked them to include the moat which I believe is what you are discussing. Very cool!!!!
