How strict is Versailles timed entry?

Following the wisdom on this forum, I'm going to book a 9 a.m. entry to Versailles. I plan to allow enough time to get there by 9, of course. But I'm wondering--in case there is a train delay or something--how much leeway is allowed for entry after 9. The next time is 10, so if you get there before 10 with a 9:00 ticket can you still get in? Before 9:30?

Also, can you buy RER tickets prior to your day of travel? I'm thinking to have the tickets already in hand before that morning.

Hi, Michele--on the Versailles site it says:
"The Passport ticket with timed entry grants admission to the whole Estate and guarantees access to the Palace within half an hour following the chosen time."

You can buy RER tickets ahead of time. You're not buying them for a specific time, just for a specific starting and ending station. You may find this link useful: https://parisbytrain.com/paris-to-chateau-versailles-by-train/

RER tickets are like bus tickets -- they are good 'forever'. I like to buy things like this ahead of time so there is no potential delay messing with it the day of.

Thanks to both of you for answering both my questions. I just now found that bit about timed entry on the labyrinthine Versailles website. Despite the number of times I have been through that website, I am still confused lol.

It is a really confusing website!! So many options for tickets/tours, palace/gardens/Trianon, free/reduced cost-tickets, etc.
