We are going to be on a Viking River cruise docked in Le Pecq. We would like to tour the Palace of Versailles on our own, without going with the group from the cruise ship. What is the safest way to get to the Palace from where the ship is docked?
You should be able to take a taxi from the Port it is only about 15- 30 minutes.
Are there taxis waiting around or would we have to call one?
Not certain about a taxi stand so please ask Viking River if they can help with that.
You could also go by train, taking the RER A to La Defense then changing to the RER L to Versailles Rive Droite. Takes about 45 minutes and costs 3.55 EUR per person each way. Trains about every 15 minutes.
Now a couple of issues. The originating stations are about a km away from the river, St Germain en Laye on the Left Bank and Gare du Vesinet La Pecq on the Right Bank. That is about a 15 minute walk. Second, the arrival station of Versailles Rive Droite is a little further away than the standard arrival station of Versailles Rive Gauche, but not much.
There is also a bus from Rue Thiers near the St Gemain en Laye RER station that goes at 8 and 48 past the hour (M-F) and takes 30 minutes to Versailles Rive Gauche. It is designated Ligne 1. Returns are every 40 minutes.

We are also going on a Viking Cruise from Le Pecq next week and want to go to Versailles. Is there any problem getting a taxi or an Uber to the dock???
If no one comes along here to answer, you should be able to get good and quick answers on the cruisecritic.com Viking forum. There should also be port info on CC.
