I haven't been to Cannes or St-Tropez but spent two weeks in Nice back in 2017 to take some French lessons. During that period I took a lot of side trips to neighboring towns. There are lots of good places to visit. Two days would be short, but since you'll already be in Cannes for the film festival, adding on a couple of days makes sense. Nice itself has at least six art museums, and there are others in the area (at least in Biot, St-Paul-de-Vence and Antibes). Menton has some nice gardens. The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and Villa Kerylos on Cap Ferrat are both interesting. There are picturesque villages perched on hills (including Eze-le-Village and St-Paul-de-Vence).
St-Tropez doesn't have a train station, unlike the other places on the coast, so it would take a bit longer to reach than you'd think from just looking at a map. Otherwise, the regional train along the coast is a very handy means of transportation. It's a happy hunting ground for pickpockets, though, so be careful about your possessions.
