How long to get through CDG airport after landing?

Hi there,
In your experience- how long does it take to get through the airport coming from the US? I know there are a ton of factors- just wanted an average. We land at 10.45 am if all goes smoothly and we are heading to Rue Cler to our hotel. I am wondering if we can get a to the Atelier Lumieres and be at a food tour by 4pm at Rue de Bac... Any thoughts are super! Thanks!

Over the last few months, passport control has taken close to one hour but this can change daily. I would plan on 1 or 1½ hours to be able to exit the airport and 1 or 1½ hours to reach any destination in Paris. Assuming your CDG arrival is on time, you should be able to be at any address in Paris within 2 to 3 hours of your scheduled landing time.

In my experience, I would not book any timed entry tickets on arrival day. I would also not go to Atelier Lumieres that day. It is a dark environment, you will be tired and jetlagged, and they are apt to find you fast asleep when they close up for the day. Do something outside that day. The food tour should be fine, though.

I usually figure 3 hours from the time I deplane (which could be 10-15 minutes after landing) to get thru Immigration, get in the taxi line and get to my usual hotel near the Rue Cler. Last time I was thru Immigration in 10 minutes which was a record (it was in March, lol!) and to the hotel in 2 hours and that was with the plane parking at one of the remote areas and having to be shuttled to Immigration. That's my best "time".

I don't see how you'd have time to get from the 7th to Atelier Lumieres, see the show, then get back to Rue de Bac by 4PM. You'll probably need at least a snack some time.

I agree you could do the food tour, but Rue de Bac is closer to the Ecole Militaire Metro stop than the Atelier des Lumieres.

just want to say that we did the food tour last week (Tuesday) and it was great! You will enjoy it.

As you noted, it's difficult to predict how long it will take to get through the "formalities" at CDG after landing. A lot will depend on circumstances at the time (ie: how many planes arrive at about that time, how many officers they have at Passport control, etc.).

If everything goes well, you may be able to get to your food tour. Hopefully you manage jet lag better than I do. There's no way I'd be able to come off a long international flight and then head out for a tour right away.

If you want recent times, a few days ago, it took me about 15 to 20 minutes to deplane, walk to the tram, and just get to immigration, then 5 minutes to get through. I was actually through before my scheduled landing time. I never plan on this happening again.

That said, on a separate trip on the RER B from the airport, there were issues on the track that caused a 45 min delay, that I unfortunately do expect again.

Each time I've come through Iceland (Schengen passport already stamped) with no checked luggage, so I probably represent the minimum. It takes me right at an hour to get to the RER B, buy a ticket and be on a train leaving CDG. Another 50 minutes to get to Gare du Nord plus another 15-20 minutes to catch a metro within walking distance of my lodging.

Flew from Detroit to CDG on 15 May 2019 (arriving 16 May). The line for passport control was long, but it moved and took about one hour to get through.

We went through last June 20th a Wednesday. We landed around 8:30 am but there must have been several planes coming in at that time because it took us right at 2 hours to get through immigration. Another 1.5 hours after that to get luggage, cab and to our hotel in the Latin quarter.

Your plan is sound. You have plenty of time.
We've been to Paris many times. It's never taken us longer than 1 hour from landing to exit the airport. Allow for another 45 minutes to arrive at your hotel on Rue Cler, which is in the 7th Arrondissement.
We have ordered a private car or taken the train into the center of Paris. Takes 30 mins by car and 45 mins total by the regional train and then transferring into the city metro once in Paris.

There is a free train shuttle between terminals. Take it to Terminal 3 and buy tickets for the RER B for Paris. Get off at Les Halles station and find metro Line #8 towards Balard. Take it to Ecole Militaire. That's your closest stop. (NOTE: lots of walking once you get to Les Halles to find your metro line #8.) Google map your 10 min walk to your hotel on Rue Cler.

I’m jumping in on this thread. We are arriving this week from the US at CDG...AA flight that is scheduled to land at 6:35 AM. We are flying priority class. I know from a previous posting that there is a priority line through passport control. This is the description I have: Premium and select non-premium passengers will be issued an access voucher from their airline.
Follow the signs marked ″Accès no.1″ or ″Sky Priority″.

Are the signs easy to find & access?

For ntodd74,

I arrived at about 5:30 AM so, fewer planes landing, not sure exactly where American comes into, I was on Delta/ Air France. But yes, they had a Sky Priority line for me, though due to the small number of people it made no difference. Can't say if what you are seeing is restricted to Air France and partners, or is available to any Airline Priority Program.

I hate to hijack the thread for all these international flights but we're taking a quick one hour flight from London to Paris while in Europe. I presume our immigration line time will be shorter (or non-existant?) as (hopefully) Brexit won't have happened by then?

Jumping in here to inquire about the food tour, which one is that? Looking for one in early August. Thanks!

Pastorash

Brexit would have no effect, except the Brits would be in line with you. You still have to go through immigration in Paris either way.

How long will depend on time of day and the terminal you come into.

I agree with the previous reviewer about Ateliers Lumineres - it is very dark in the venue, and may tire you further. I would just take a quick nap after arriving at the hotel, and then go for the food tour at 4 PM. Also, I wanted to mention that the period of time that it takes to get from your arrival gate to baggage claim can be quite long and a bit confusing....I believe it took me about an hour from arrival to the baggage claim- customs really didn't take that long. Bonne vacances!

I just posted on another thread a report of our flight into CDG on June 6th. It was so very smooth. In & out in 5 minutes.

Landing at 10:45 or so, I figure on 45 mins to one hour, including clearing Immigration and getting the luggage. There have been times that passport control took less that 30 mins whereas waiting for the luggage to be thrown out was more time consuming.
