My wife and friends arrive at CDG at 8 am on May 4th. How long is it taking to clear customs? We have TGV tickets for the 11:30 train to Strasbourg. Is 3 and half hours a large enough buffer?
If you mean immigration, it took us about 1 hour to do so on this past Monday morning.
If just depends -- should be an hour or less, could be two or three depending on number of officers on duty and number of planes at that hour.
You should be very safe with that time spread -- there is a little give there for a late plane. No guarantee of course; there is always some risk when you have an onward trip the same day as arrival. But you have plenty of time for normal situations. Our immigration times have been anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Luggage is often very slow at CDG. We have often had to wait half an hour to an hour for luggage when getting through immigration quickly.
I landed about that time in March and was through immigration in about 45 minutes and that includes most of that was spent walking to the place to clear it. There was no real line on right now. But you know you could have the complete opposite experience but I would feel comfortable with that time frame
March31 9AM arrival. Less than an hour from deplaning to clearing immigration with carry-on.
Same arrival time & train departure time to Strasbourg at end of Nov 2021. 1 hour to clear immigration, customs was just a walk by/nothing to declare, pick up bags and headed to Terminal 2 station. Took longer walking from plane to immigration, then going through immigration/passport check. One of the two elevators from baggage claim level heading up one level was down, long line. However the escalators next to the elevators was not an issue. Went up the one level, walked down the corridor, and down the escalator to the station. Had time to get Euros from the ATM before heading down to the train station.
Enjoy your trip.
Took us about 2 minutes to clear customs —about 10 to get our baggage last week, 7:45 am arrival on a Tuesday
We arrived about 10-days ago, and it was fast through immigration, but we had a connection so not so fast through security. 3 and a half hours is plenty of time.
Passport control and security took over 90 minutes this morning outbound through terminal 2A.
We arrived at Terminal 2E at 8:15 am on Saturday, April 16 and it took 90 - 120 minutes to clear immigration & passport control. Go the toilet before entering the line. Must have been a lot of planes landing at the same time and some agents off for the Easter holidays. Not a fun into to France.
I made that transfer comfortably two weeks ago, with enough time to spare for a snack. But it's a big, complicated, busy airport, so any calculation must be cautious. The time your plane touches down is when the clock starts ticking, not when you reach the arrivals area. Checked luggage wends its way to the carousel. It's a hike to the rail terminal, following the signs. Be sure you are at SNCF and not the adjoining RER regional dock. Announcement of your Strasbourg train's platform will only go up 20 minutes or so in advance. Nice train, except for one thing: Very limited space for luggage, especially big bags. Try to get aboard as soon as you can. Luggage can be stored at the ends of the car and often in a small area at the middle.
Nice ride, too, and Strasbourg is inviting, especially the new, and huge, museum of contemporary art. The famous cathedral is an inevitable crowd scene. Good food; good beer (it's in the north.)
My mother and I lucked out this past November. We were on the train from CDG to Strasbourg and got on & our bags stored just prior to a family/group of 10, whom all had at least two suitcases each. Luggage was piled up on the floor and down the carriage they were in. One of their party remained between the two carriages so that he could keep an eye on everything as well as keep a walking path for folks. He did this for the entire trip.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences. It took us about an 90 minutes, perhaps a bit more to clear immigration, etc. As someone noted lots of walking. We made it to the TVG station with 90 min to spare fore the 11:30 to Strasbourg. Having reserved, 1st class tickets was very nice after the 10 hr flight from Seattle. There's a few (1 euro) for the toilets in the train station.
Great it all worked out for you. Enjoy your time.
My wife and I arrived in Paris yesterday, rented a car, and drive on too Rouen. It took us about 10 minutes to clear customs. Maybe Wednesday mornings are always that quick?
This is good information to read. I’m going to Strasbourg and Paris for 10 days in early September. I want to make sure I have enough time to get through customs when I get off the plane in Paris.
