How long to clear customs and baggage at Charles de Gaulle?

I have 3 hours between landing at Charles de Gaulle airport and grabbing the TGV in Terminal 2. Do I need to exit the airport through customs and baggage claim and reenter the airport to get the TGV in Terminal 2? If so, how long does that take? Does anyone have experience with this?

Assuming you are landing from North America, you will go through passport control and get your passport stamped. That's a line, how long? Depends on how many other International flights are landing for Terminal 2 when you are. Then you get your luggage and go through customs, usually nothing more than walking by a customs agent at the door marked "Nothing to Declare". Then you are in the arrivals hall and just follow the signs to the TGV station.
Will your flight depart on time? Will your flight land on time? There are lots of factors besides how long the line is at immigration. Like whether budget cuts cause management to reduce the number of immigration officers manning the stations on that particular day. Just hope for the best and soldier on.

which terminal are you arriving at.. If flying from Canada( you didn't put that on your profile so no one knows where you are flying from!) then you are likely landing in terminal three.. which is usually way quieter then other terminals.. I generally walk out in less then 30 minutes.. but as said.. it can vary.

I've done this in under an hour, but my flight landed at Terminal 2 and I took just carry-on luggage. Three hours should be plenty, even if you land at Terminal 1 and have to take the shuttle (CDGVAL) to the Terminal 2 TGV station. Because CDG is a confusing airport, it's a good idea to get the lay of the land on a website first. I like Paris By Train, since it will give you step-by-step instructions on how to get to the TGV station.

x2 on it's a confusing airport. And it was a long slog for my wife and I coming in from Dublin to the Term 2 TGV station. Our lesson was make absolutely sure you're on the right train once you get there! We took the TGV from CDG to the Marne Valley station for DLP, and ended up missing the stop as we hadn't even gotten to our seats yet!

We flre in on a local (Dublin to CDG) flight and our time getting through customs/passport was fairly quick, but wasn't a whole lot of other passengers. Took us longer to get the bags and then walk, and escalator, and eventually use a lift down to the TGV area. Having a good map would have been invaluable, having looked at onr beforehand would have been golden.

Enjoy the trip!

Thank you! These replies are helpful. Yes, I'm flying from Chicago so I land in Terminal 1.

So you are on United, n'est pas? You will need to get on the CDGVAL shuttle train (similar to the one at O'Hare) and take it to the far end at Terminal 2. Fortunately close to the TGV station. Map here

As previous posters have noted, it will always depend on whether your inbound flight arrives on-time...AND...whether you already have printed train tickets...or..you need to collect tickets at the train station in CDG. Note, that if you need to collect tickets from the a ticket window, you cannot use US-issued credit cards in automatic ticket vending machines unless you have a chip credit card. If you need to collect tickets, you need to allow perhaps 30 minutes to account for possible lines at ticket windows. I was able to purchase and print my ticket from home which made the whole process a lot easier.

Remember to validate your train ticket before boarding the train. The yellow validation machine is located at the bottom of the escalator and before you walk along the train tracks towards your train.

Another note. Last month when I was walking thru CDG to the train station, I was approached by several pan handlers. Please be aware of your surroundings and the fact that once you exit customs, the rest of the airport is not a secured area. I was glad I already had my money belt on.

Have a great trip!

Depending on which fare you have paid, if you have already purchased, your TGV ticket is only valid for the reserved time and may not be changeable or refundable if you miss the train.

Thanks for the additional information, especially for the CDG map and the reminder about ticket validation and pan handlers!
