How hard is it to buy a used suitcase in Paris to bring stuff home

Hello all,

My wife and I are going to Paris and London for two weeks. We usually pack light so we don't have to check a bag, But we're guessing we'll want to buy things (books and wine come to mind) in Paris especially. We thought we could hold off and buy an old suitcase in a thrift store and check it on the flight home. But I have no idea if thrift stores are a thing in Paris. Perhaps at one of the many flea markets? Anyone else tried this plan?

You could look at an Emmaus shop (Google for locations, all around the city). That is the equivalent of a Goodwill.

Most people shy away from used luggage due to possible bedbug issues. I suggest buying a collapsible duffel bag and taking it with you. They don’t take up much space empty but can be really handy for the trip home.

There are tons of houseware shops all over Paris tht have cheap luggage -- backpacks, duffles, suitcases -- thaat don't run the risk of bringing unwelcome vermin into the airplace or yur home. You will see suitcases chained up outside these shops as well as artificial flowers, shopping carts etc qnd they are easy to spot.

There are very inexpensive suitcases available for sale that are not used. There is a store called Rayon d'Or that has locations all over Paris that should have something that meets your needs. Then you can donate it when you get back to the US. Also, a lot of the souvenir shops sell inexpensive duffel bags with wheels.

I would recommend bringing a duffel bag with you in your suitcase. Put your clothes in the duffel and any souvenirs in the suitcase for the trip home. I do this any time I am on a trip where I anticipate buying lots of souvenirs. Much easier than trying to find luggage once you’re there.
