How early must we arrive at Versailles in early November?

Hubby wants to take me back to France (Yeah me) to see the things we did not get to see in 2015 because things closed because of the attacks while we were there.

One place is Versailles. In Early November, what time makes sense to get there so to not be in lines that are hours long? Is there a day of the week that would be better to visit on to avoid the biggest crowds?

Visit the gardens first or the chateau?

I can't wait.

I would buy a timed entry ticket where you don't have to worry about getting there early or waiting in an hours long line. And plan the garden around the timed entrance to the chateau. This timed ticket is fairly new but I have read accounts that suggest it works well. They supposedly guarantee entrance within 30 minutes of your time and those I read were in virtually immediately.

The chateau at Versailles is ALWAYS crowded. The lines will be shorter in November but when we were there at the very end of October a couple of years ago the line for entry was about 7 blocks long by mid morning.

OTOH, we arrived mid-morning on a drizzly December day and walked right in. No guarantees.
