My husband and I have three weeks in October 2022 slated for Paris, Seville, Granada and Barcelona. The flights are booked. Because of some very interesting comments on RS Forum, I've thought how nice it would be to visit Lyon which neither my husband nor I have visited. We, then, are going to Seville, to Granada, then Barcelona with a day trip to Girona. Is that even feasible or will too much time be spent traveling from Paris to Lyon and Lyon to Seville? It's the Lyon to Seville that I'm especially concerned about.
What is the best way to travel from Paris to Lyon and then Lyon to Seville?
This forum has been a god-send for information.
Check out the Rome2Rio app. It is wonderful to find out best routes to take and will give you several options to get there, including times.
Check out the Rome2Rio app. It is wonderful to find out best routes to take and will give you several options to get there, including times. We are going from Paris to Lyon on train in May. It is an easy 2 hr trip. I am thinking to continue on to Seville you will need to take a flight out of Lyon.
Paris to Lyon is best by train, it only takes 2 hours.
Lyon to Seville is best by plane but the direct flight is only 2x/week, Thu and Sun. Or there are flights to Malaga, from where you can reach both Granada and Sevilla without too much hassle.
Is there any way you can fly out of Seville, though? It would help: that way you could take the train from Lyon to Girona, then Barcelona, Granada, Seville.
I agree with Balso that if you can, plan your return from Seville rather than doubling back. I would take the train to Barcelona and then go to Granada and Seville. But don’t miss Lyon!!
To go from Lyon to Seville, if you don't have a direct flight, take the TGV to Paris CDG airport (2 hours journey) and fly from CDG.
In October you will have several direct flights every day to Seville
Or, fly from Lyon to Madrid and then take the train south. That way you avoid backtracking to Paris.
Lindy, are you flying home from Barcelona?
I like Madrid so much that I would leave Lyon for a subsequent trip to France. Say, Alsace or Provence. There are many places in Spain just as nice as Lyon. Maybe not quite as famous for food.
Thanks for the great responses everyone. They were nice to wake up to.
Currently, I'm looking at flying from Lyon to Madrid and then high speed train to Seville. There are several nice and expedient options.
Jolui, "In October you will have several direct flights every day to Seville" does this mean a direct flight from Lyon to Seville in October? That would be much nicer than Lyon-Madrid-Seville.
I think Jolui's comment refer to flights from Paris.
But I also agree that it might be a good idea to see if you can rearrange your travel in Spain and visit Barcelona first and then continue south.
I'll have to check to see if we might be dinged for changing our flight out of Barcelona. It does sound more reasonable, though, to go from Lyon to Barcelona and then the other sites.
I always so appreciate the great help I receive here.
I did not have a chance to get to Lyon on our trip to Paris but it is highhhh on my list of places to visit (mostly for the food). However, I have been to Seville and Granada so I would say that absolutely you should spend as much time in both of those cites as you possibly can. Seville and Granada are both absolutely incredible so I'm not sure how many days that you have planned but personally I would make sure to not take away from my experience there by jumping around too much. If anything I would maybe add Ronda or Cordoba which are very close to both cities and were BEAUTIFUL. You will have an absolute blast regardless! Make sure to go to a flamenco dance and see the Alhambra in Granada!
We did it--we changed our flight departing from Barcelona to Newark and booked Madrid to Newark, instead. So, we are doing our Spain trip backwards. Getting to Barcelona from Lyon is much more manageable thanks to so many wonderful suggestions.
Yes, Loren, we have been to both Granada and Seville which is why we have to return. It's the setting, the architecture, those TILES! We've been to Cordoba but will pass this time since I've inserted Girona. One of these days, I'll get to Ronda.
Great!
The train from Lyon to Barcelona stops in Girona. Might be worth considering spending the night there, to avoid having to backtrack from Barcelona as a day trip.
