How best to travel from Avignon TGV station to a hotel near that Bridge

We’ll be arriving at Avignon TGV station around 20.15 hours and needing to get to a hotel we’ve found in the old city near Pont St Benezet / Pont Daladier / Hotel de Ville. We’ve never visited Avignon and hardly ever been to France, so don’t know French systems. It looks like one option would be to take a taxi from Avignon TGV station direct to our hotel. Another would be a 5 minute train ride to Avignon Centre station, then take a taxi for a shorter distance. Trains between Avignon TGV station and Avignon Centre seem to be only hourly so late in the day.
Are unbooked taxis likely to be readily available at either station? Do Avignon taxis have meters? How much should we expect to pay for a taxi from Avignon TGV station to our hotel? Do some taxi drivers regularly cheat newcomers like can happen at Heathrow Airport? Do Avignon taxis insist on either cash or card payments? Anything we should be alert for like official and unofficial taxi services?
Would much appreciate guidance on such questions.

Charles, Perhaps someone at the hotel you have booked could answer your questions. (We always drive, so I am sorry I don't have any answers for you.) Best of luck.

At avignon TGV, you can take a train to Avignon centre or a bus (line 20) .
In the 2 case, you will need to walk 5 to 10 min in the town center.

We hired a private driver while we were in Avignon and loved every minute of being with her.

She picked us up at the station on arrival and took us to our hotel, and then spent ages pointing out which restaurants were good and which were simply touristy.

We had a full day tour of the region with her which was fantastic, then on our departure day she dropped us at Avignon TGV again for our train to Barcelona.

I am sure you could get an Uber though, especially in high season.
