I'll be returning to Paris for one night before flying out, and was considering staying near CDG just to reduce stress about getting to the airport during rush hour traffic. Any recommendations?
The Sheraton is right on sight
I’ve done the Sheraton, the Hilton and the Holiday Inn express
Sheraton was my least favorite. Yes, the location is great but service was bad and rooms are I’m bad shape. They have a monopoly and they know it and they really don’t care and it’s incredibly overpriced for what you get in my opinion.
Hilton was my favorite. You can take the little Charles de Gaulle train to your terminal which makes it very easy. The room was nice. It’s a good location. I liked it. Holiday Inn was fine but a little noisy and a little harder to get to. It was quite a walk to and from the train with Hilton it’s much easier
I stayed at Citizen M. Location and price were good. The room was plenty big for me as a solo traveler, but might feel tight for a couple.
It just goes to show you how people’s experiences differ. Mine were the opposite of Carol’s above. Our stay at the CDG Hilton was awful. Without going into all the details, I’ll just say that it put me off ever staying at a Hilton again. The Sheraton, on the other hand, was super comfortable. Breakfast was included, but our very early departure was before the restaurant opened. At the checkout counter, however, there were trays of warm croissants and urns of coffee. No question which I’d choose in the future.
I’ll just add that staying at the airport is a very good idea. On one of our trips, the check in process took VERY long. I’m thinking 2 hours (?). There was a separate line for a Schengen departure screening, after getting boarding passes and baggage check in. CDG is one of the world’s busiest, and many flights to N. America leave in the early morning.
I laughed at Rossalyn's post because the single worst meal we ever had in Europe was at the CDG airport HIlton the night before a flight. We arrived late and hungry (but during dinner service) and had very expensive (expected) nearly inedible (not expected) food -- dried out, just awful. It made me so furious to be so cheated that we hve tried to avoid Hilton's ever since.
I'd get dinner on the road if driving and drop the car late and check into one of the hotels at Roissypole -- or the Sheraton if you want to spend the money. We use the Novotel which is clean, quiet, has a decent breakfast buffet and is steps from the CDGVAL for transport to the terminals or the RER B if one wants to head into Paris for the evening.
If you are coming by train I'd come into Paris and get dinner and then take the RER B to the airport.
The key is stay AT not NEAR the airport so you are on their internal transport and don't have to futz with cabs or unreliable shuttles.
Another vote for the Novotel. Clean, roomy, good breakfast and supper, and incredibly sound proofed. Didn’t hear any planes and it took literally 10 minutes to get to my terminal.
Bonjour. We just returned last week from France. Arrived CDG by TGV. Ride the CDGVal to Parking 1 stop. Walk 3 minutes to our hotel - Marriott Residence Inn. Approx $220 a night w/breakfast.
Room had very comfortable king size bed. And kitchenette. Although, we just used a corkscrew and wine glasses to celebrate our lovely end of France journey. At property restaurant we had the appetizer plate - it wasn’t stellar, but it was edible.
Next morning -our flight departure was 840am. We took CDGVal to terminal one, left hotel at 540am - through security, no passport control. Arrived at the gate at 620am. Could have easily slept in longer, and had breakfast (hotel breakfast starts at 6am), Flew Condor Airlines to Frankfurt, connect to flight home -Seattle. We’ve stayed at the Marriott twice. And would stay again.
We recently stayed at the Sheraton. I had read some negative reviews, but our room was fine and the convenience can't be beat. Would stay there again.
The night before flying back to SFO I stay in an airport hotel, usually Campanile , 3 star or nearby literally, Golden Tulip, a 4 star, both French chains. Quite pleasant and satisfactory.
