Hotels in Nice - last minute

Hello!
I'll be in Nice from July 11-15. I have an event to attend in Monaco on July 12 and the rest of the time will be for sightseeing. I booked the Holiday Inn Nice with mostly points through my IHG account but there appear to be big renovations going on there and the recent reviews for the hotel are not good (previous reviews were mostly fine). I'm thinking about switching hotels but I'm worried that it's too late to get a good rate on anything. Does anyone have any last minute hotel recommendations? I'll be traveling solo and would like to be centrally located. Thanks!

Sue, we stayed at Hotel Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais on our tour. We were pleased with the central location. We did a day trip by bus to Monaco. It was about a 10 min. walk to the bus stop. The hotel is across the street from the Promenade and walking distance to a great selection of restaurants and attractions. We would stay there again.

I stayed at the Hotel Cronstadt last week. The hotel is old fashioned but it's in a great location a block from the Boulevard des Anglais.

Thanks for the tips! It looks like both places have availability so I'll check them out!! Hotel Mercure Nice Promenade des Angeles seemed to require full prepayment for online booking (which I dislike) but I will try to email them directly!

Sue,

Although it won't be the least expensive choice, I would highly recommend Hotel Suisse, which has gorgeous views down the beach from some of the rooms. July will be "high season" so prices will probably be higher.

The Hotel Windsor is showing availability and is often recommended. The Suisse does have great views, but the distance to the train station is a bit further. The Mercure is quite convenient. I would also say the upgraded rooms at the Le Meridien next door (a Bonvoy system hotel, if you have status) also have a great view (of Castle Hill, the bay and the park below). The Goldstar Suites do offer some flexibility if you don't intend to eat in every meal. There are also a wide variety of managed apartments.

In July, just verify that any hotel or apartment has air conditioning, if just for the ability to close the windows at night against any noise or bugs.

Thanks for all of the advice! I'm checking them all out. Unfortunately, I don't think that I can swing Hotel Suisse but most of the others look affordable. I have emailed Hotel Windsor. I've found some pretty good deals on Airbnb's too. I'm relieved that there's still a lot available!
