Hotels in Lyon

Good Day,
Doing a Burgandy wine tour in October and the pickup point is at the Lyon Airport. We'll have a day and a 1/2 to spend in Lyon, so my question is... What are some of the preferred locations to stay and what are some of the recommended hotels?
Thank you

The RS guidebook has a number of very good hotels listed. I have enjoyed staying at the Hotel des Celestins several times.

There are several very excellent restaurants around there too. Have fun.

I like the central peninsula Presqu'île as a location. We spent a couple nights there near Square Jacobin and never used public transport after getting in from Part Dieu as we could easily walk everywhere central -- across the Soane on a footbridge for old town and when visiting Traboules and taking the funnicular up to the basilica and Roman ruins.

Alas we had a bad hotel so can't recommend a good one. We did find a nice coffee shop just before the Soane for breakfasts.

Our favorite is a destination in and if itself , located up on la Fourvière it's Hôtel Fourvière. It's in a former convent. About 10 min walk to the funiculaire.

We also stayed at the Hôtel Mercure Lyon Centre Beaux Arts for three nights.

Perfect location and could walk to everything. A good breakfast too, and we would happily return.

I reserved the „ Best Western Plus Hotel du Pont Wilson“. Looked good, showed cheap rates and is good scored. Sorry, I have no experiences by my own, because our River Cruise starting in Lyon is canceled. The company wrote me, that not enough people wanted to do this River Cruise.
