Hello. Does anyone have hotel recommendations for Strasbourg or Colmar. Thinking of visiting in June. Thank you.
We stayed at Colmar Hotel, 14 Rte de Rouffach, by the train station. It’s a mile from the historic center. When we didn’t want to walk we took the free electric bus, the Navette that goes around the city. Its route starts at the train station.
We chose that hotel since we had a rental car and it had free parking. We enjoyed the hotel and it offered a nice breakfast buffet.
I loved staying at the Hotel Saint-Martin in the old city area of Colmar. The rooms were lovely and so was the breakfast plus it was "right there" in the middle of things.
I do recommend in Colmar to have data on your phone. There is a very nice DIY walking tour but each stop has a QR code for extra information so data is needed. A map is available at the TI office but you'll want the extra information!
Be prepared to find hotel prices in Strasbourg outrageously expensive, even for the 2 star establishments. If price value is a concern, then I would suggest staying in Colmar. Besides, I like that town. Next June I will be back again in Alsace-Lorraine and am staying in Metz using the regional train to get to Strasbourg.
For the inner city I use the Maison Rouge. It's the best location and very nice, but not inexpensive. Outside the inner ring I have used the Aloft Etoile, which my family liked as there's a huge shopping mall and good places to eat right nearby. But parking is several blocks away.
The biggest issue I have with Strasbourg is the parking is horrible and expensive. It can cost 50 Euro a day in places. But the public transport is good, and cheap.
I don't find Colmar to be that much less expensive (for lodging) during "tourist" season, or in December. I usually stay outside the city, preferring places in the Vosage. Next month, when I'm down that way, I'll be staying in Orbey at Domaine de Basel.
In Strasbourg, I had a good stay at Hotel Arok in May. The train station location is not the most charming but it is convenient for day trips and still very close to the action in the old town. The hotel itself was very comfortable, and about 120€/night.
In Strasbourg two years ago we stayed at Le Grand Hotel, across from the train station. We only stayed one night (on our way to 4 nights in an apartment in Colmar) and it was nice and conveniently located. We were able to walk to the old town and Petite France easily from there.
I stayed at the Sofitel in Strasbourg last Christmas. It was the very first Sofitel and it needs a face lift to keep up but the location was fantastic and they had a lovely little Marché de Noël that lasted until the new year outside with things like vin chaud, raclette, and risotto balls.
Thanks everyone for these wonderful suggestions. I really appreciate it.
I stayed at this hotel in Colmar and was very pleased with the accommodations - https://www.rapp-hotel.com/en/ . Hopefully it's still providing the same level of service.
We really enjoyed staying at the Regent Petite France Hotel at 5 Rue des Moulins. It was in a lovely location and an easy walk from the train station as well as the cathedral. The Petite Venice area was charming.
The Hotel Saint-Martin in Colmar. Good rooms and breakfast and the location was such that we could walk everywhere. Several good places to eat dinner near the hotel.
I did not stay in the center of Strasbourg. Instead I stayed at the Okko, which was a very pleasant property on one of the tram lines. Semi-residential area, grocery store a block away, about a 25 minute stroll to the Cathedral. I was very happy with the property and the price.
We also stayed at Hotel Saint-Martin in the old center of Colmar for the location & the atmosphere of the little hotel. The location was very handy. We enjoyed a room with a balcony where we watched the beginning of a race and cheered on the participants.
I was there in May and thoroughly enjoyed both cities.
I stayed at Hôtel Le Maréchal in Colmar. Great location in an historic building.
Hotel Gutenberg in Strasbourg was perfect for my trip. Nothing fancy, but very convenient location. About a block from a tram stop, just a couple blocks from the cathedral and less than 10 minute walk to Petite France.
I thought that by going in May, the crowds would be less. But Strasbourg, and especially Petite France, was jammed. Can't imagine how much busier it was in peak season.
We stayed at the Hotel Hannong in Strasbourg back in October 2015. I wasn't going to recommend it because so much time has passed, but it is currently the No. 1 Strasbourg Hotel on Trip Advisor, so I guess it has held up. It's an easy walk from the train station.
