Looking for recommendations for hotels in the city center of Avignon.
Here's a recent post that may give you some ideas:

Edit: You don't mention when you are going to be there, what type of hotels you prefer, and what your budget might be. I always recommend the Hotel Central (as I did in that post).
We stayed at the Hotel Le Colbert in April 2014. Except during the theatre festival, the most expensive rooms are less than 115 Euros, and I think the cheapest rooms start at around 75 Euros. It feels very "Provencal". The hotel also feels more expensive than it is and the owners are very helpful. I appreciated that the owner told us that we could get a cheaper breakfast at the cafe up the street than the one offered by the hotel. We chose the convenience of having the light continental breakfast at the hotel, which was perfectly adequate. Everything inside the walls is within walking distance.
We rented an apartment in the historic city center. Few blocks away from the market, restaurants, etc.
