Hotels in 9th District?

Hi Everyone,

We are in the final stages of booking for Paris in June. This will be our first visit and museum tickets have already been purchased for all sites we are interested in. Our question is where to stay? We have a booking near Gare de Lyon (Holiday Inn...not French experience...boo) because we are three adults (well, daughter is 15 but may as well be an adult). This is convenient for our onward travel to Beaune (by train) then Avignon (and return). But...we know nothing about the area.

Alternately, we are considering 9th Arrondissement because we arrive from Brussels via Thalys, and leave from Gare du Nord for London on 26Jun on Eurostar. We would prefer a hotel that is family friendly, breakfast included (not required), and reasonable (around $300 a night...flexible). Anyone familiar with the Hotel Opera Lafayette and/or the area around it?

If you want a more french and Parisian experience, an establishment classified as a historical monument, look at the Chopin hotel.

It is located next to the Grevin Museum in a covered passage in the 9th district, the "Passage Jouffroy" 1/4 mi from Opéra and 1 mi from Gare du Nord.
It's not a fancy 3 star but you will remember it more than a charmless Mercure or Ibis

Also take a look at the Astotels. There are several in the 9th, close to Saint-Georges metro station. Walking distance to Opera Garnier, Galeries Lafayette, Place Vendome. Very friendly personnel, good buffet breakfast. Price range well below 300$ (I paid 100€ for a single in hotel Joyce, but that was in February and thus low season).
