Hotels for Aix en Provence for mid May

My husband and I are travelling to Provence for the first time in mid May. We will be flying into Marseille airport around 6:00 pm. We only plan to be there for 3 nights. Any hotel recommendations? We're hoping to keep it under $300/night. This is part of a 2 week trip as we will spend more time in the French Riviera with Nice as our base. I plan to return to Provence in the future with my mom or a girlfriend for the lavender fields and more villages so I'm ok with a short stay for my first time.

Mid-May will be a busy, expensive time due to the public holidays in France: availability might already be an issue.
A decently priced place I can recommend is Hôtel Cézanne. Nothing amazing (small rooms), but the location is perfect and it should be within budget. By the way, to keep costs down, unless you absolutely need a savory breakfast it is best to skip hotel breakfasts in France. They're basically never included and rarely amazing.

Thank you for the recommendation. Will check that out. Agree with your tip about hotel breakfasts.

We stayed at Hotel de la Rotonde last fall and found it nice, clean, modern. It’s very close to the Rotonde at the centre of town.

We stayed at Hotel des Augustin for 3 nights Sep 2024. $200/night included breakfast which we prefer so we are ready for the day when we leave the hotel. We booked directly with the hotel.
We chose the hotel both for the price and proximity to Cr Mirabeau. Our room was huge! It even had a sofa. I think the hotel used to be a monastery.
Check out the TI in town. They have a nice gift shop. I bought one of my favorite souvenir earrings there…outline of Cezanne’s favorite mountain.

We took my mother-in-law to Hotel Augustins 25 years ago and got two rooms, both of which felt like monks' cells. Looking at the rooms on the website, I think Carol was fortunate to get a room in the deluxe category. That would be my choice, too.

Be aware that spacious rooms begin at a higher category and the rooms called mansard are under the roof and can have sloped walls cutting down on where you can stand all the way up.

Are you driving to Aix? If so, I'd recommend finding one right on the outside of the ring road. You can easily walk right into the historic center, but not have to worry about navigating/parking. It's a great town. Enjoy.
