Hotels in the Arles, Avignon or St. Remy area

At the end of September, my husband and I will be arriving at the Marseille airport after a long flight from Minneapolis with a stop and another flight from Paris. In the past, we have rented a car and driven for two or three hours. We then stop to recover from our jet lag. However, we are now a little older so I don't want to drive so far.

Question...any hotel recommendations for Arles, Avignon or the St. Remy area?

So that you know how much we are willing to spend, we usually stay at 3 or 4 star hotels. We are just interested in the hotel for one or two nights. We would prefer the hotel not be in the city centers for driving purposes. Since we have visited the cities in the past, we would prefer to be on the outskirts of the city. Merci in advance!

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Boquier in Avignon, however this may not meet your expectations, as I don't consider it to be a "3 or 4 star hotel"

You may find other recommended hotels in Rick Steves' France or Provence book.

Edit to add... You may consider changing the title of your topic to something like;
hotels in Arles, Avignon or Les Baux.

BTW, Les Baux is very small & you will have to park your car then walk uphill to reach the village.

How about St Remy ?? Near to all of the above, but not "city". We stayed at Villa Glanum, walking distance from downtown St Remy and also the Glanum ruins.

we stayed in St Remy for a number of nights ( in a B&B) and while we had off street parking, the town is quite small, so you should not experience any problems driving in the town. and some of the smaller towns in the surrounding area.

We just returned from Avignon and stayed just outside the city walls at a hotel called Les Agassins. We used Avignon as a base to drive to other scenic and historical sites in Provence. It has plenty of free parking and lovely grounds. Our room was also a very decent size.

My husband and I will be staying in a chambre d" hote just outside of the village of Uze's. The name is Mas d" Augustine and run by Gary and Jane Langton - a US couple. www.masdaugustine.com Very nice people to talk with and seem quite accommodating.

In Arles - Hotel Le Regence is on the Rhone bank, just inside the old city walls on the north side. Free parking on the outside of the city walls, and an easy escape on the roundabout there to points north: Avignon, Les Baux, St. Remy, etc.

In Arles, I liked the Hotel du Forum. It is in the centre but I think they can accommodate a car somewhere nearby. In St Remy: I disliked the Hotel du Soleil and doubt if it would meet your standards. Both these were booked for me as part of a walking tour. Near the Pont du Gard I really liked the Bégude St Pierre - a very restful place NW of Remoulins and not far from Avignon.

Le Colbert may be one of our favorites anywhere. Very reasonable price, great host, wonderful breakfast, and a short walk to the train station as well as to anything in tiny Avignon.
