We’ve been staying with our daughter in Montpellier and would like to get out of the city for a few days, to relax in the sun and enjoy a good dinner. Would love your help in suggesting a hotel, within an hour of Montpellier- with a pool and a restaurant. I’ve tried to search the internet but no luck - anyplace will do - sete, brazier., the camargue. We’re getting older and prefer not to drive in the dark. We would hope to go this Monday and Tuesday . Thank you so much!!
There are many listed on the Relais & Châteaux website since this is a major vacation area. Enter Hérault for the department as you search. Its number is 34. Also look in the Gard department, the 30.
Uzès, in the 30, is only an hour away and there are some lovely places there. It's one of our family favorites. Pézenas near Bézier is another.
Also the Logis de France website has reasonably priced 3-star hotels with restaurants. Some may have a pool.
Finally, at this time of year, there should be vacancies at La Grand Motte where you'll find pools, restaurants, rentals, hotels, activities, and the beach. It's only fifteen kilometers from Montpellier but people go there for breaks.
Château de Pondres near Sommières is an example of what you're looking for. You need a car to get there, but there is a restaurant on site. Never tried it! This is just the result of a brief search fueled by my own curiosity.
The chateau looks perfect but, unfortunately, they do not offer dinner Monday or Tuesday / but surely something to keep in mind for next time.
I did check with tourist info but they are limited to Montpellier - suggested the Marriott courtyard which is not quite w what we have in mind. I did find a hotel in sete ,the st alban - it has a pool and restaurant although the restaurant is closed on Monday. It may be the best I can do.
Thank you for your help!
Well, there are plenty of restaurants in Sète and it's a walkable place so you'll be fine I'm sure! Monday nights are always challenging in France when it comes to dinner...
Edit : the St Alban does not look to be in Sète, but near Pézenas. You might have to drive to Pézenas for dinner.
I’m thinking that we will have a large lunch - is there any other in France?- in sete and just nibble on cookies the first night - truly decadent. Then, dinner the second night and all will be well. Again - thank you!!
In our family here in France, lunch is our main meal every day. It is quite common in France, especially once one reaches what we diplomatically call "a certain age." This is true whether we have activities going on during the morning or afternoon.
I’m smiling , as we have reached -perhaps exceeded - that “certain age” - and are grateful that we are able to enjoy France and all that it offers.
My friends and I, who eat at dinner duck confit with Sarladaise potatoes, bœuf bourguignon, petit salé aux lentilles, or other lasagna dishes and only a few salads at lunchtime, we thank Bets warmly for putting us in the category of those who have not yet reached a "certain age" :))
That being said, for an hotel with pool you could look in Gruissan (west of Montpellier)

You won't be far from Narbonne, and if you're looking for a "large lunch" I think the Grand Buffet could satisfy you:
I’m drooling but, unfortunately, we’ve booked a hotel for the next two days and will be heading out shortly - but there’s always a next time.. thank you and non appetite!!
