Hi folks- arriving at CDG at 9am on a Saturday in August, and taking a train the next morning at Gare St Lazare to Givenchy, where we will be staying a few nights. Will spend more time in Paris later. We will be flying overnight, so I’m thinking day 1 will be a Hop on, Hop off bus tour or something similar (suggestions) that will ease us into our trip. So, I’m looking for a convenient hotel where we can get a good night sleep. I really like the Rue Cler area so something similar that will be simple to get to from the airport, and with uncomplicated access to Gare St Lazare is what I’m looking for. Thanks for your time! The Hilton is right there and it is absolutely lovely. If not, there's another hotel nearby called Best Western Premier Kapital Opera that is also quite lovely.
This is my routine when I travel to Normandy every two years and is a good way to start your trip. There are several hotels in the area. I have stayed at the Hôtel le Relais, and the Astotel in the general neighborhood (roughly inbetween Gare-Saint-Lazare, Opera Palais Garnier, and le Madeleine). Nothing fancy, but both were fine. Both have also allowed me to drop off my bags on arrival, even though my room wasn't yet ready. Both are also a 5-minute walk to Gare Saint-Lazare and there are a few shops and cafes in the area.
i like Hotel Phileas if you want to cross the street and be in the station. I've stayed at two Astotels (Hotel Astoria and Hotel Joyce), Hotel R de Paris, Hotel Chavanel, and Hotel Saint Petersbourg, which are all pretty close ( 5-10 minute walk) to the station because I used to fly to Paris a couple of times per year for meetings on Rue de Londres. Rooms at Hotel Chavanel are on the small side of things.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! Seems that with the great public transit that I can expand my search for a convenient hotel… So, I’m thinking we will base ourselves in the Luxumbourg/ Latin Quarter. We can spend the arrival day checking out the historical self guided walking tour. Then the next morning we can stroll the Luxumbourg gardens and some street markets in the Latin Quarter before taking a bus to Gare St. Lazare. Excited! Thanks!
