Hotel suggestions for St Germain area

I have only been to Paris once and we stayed in the Latin Quarter at that time.

Hoping to go back this spring and thinking to stay in the St Germain neighbourhood this time given it's better proximity to things of interest as we only have 3 days there. Hubby likes to stay in places with what he calls "action", but I am a bit concerned about late night noise in this area.

I have found a few options (Hotel des Marrionniers, Hotel des Grand Balcons and Hotel Clement) and am wondering if anyone here can either comment on any of these or suggest other hotels in this area under $200/night.

Thanks very much.

Our favorite is the Relais Bosquet in the 7th. The Rue Cler market is a block away and the bus #69 covers that area. The hotel is lovely, clean, great breakfast, and very nice staff. There are lots of restaurants for last minute or late night dinner all within a couple of minutes walk. The hotel has some rooms with Eiffel Tower view, and an easy 7-8 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower as is Les Invalides. The Seine is less than a 10 minute walk. There is also a laundry facility just down the street in case anyone needs one. There are also several groceries all within a 2 3 minute walk from the hotel. It's quiet at night, and the rooms are of good size. Recently remodeled with several meal plan options that are awesome. https://hotel-paris-bosquet.com/ Easy walk to all the upscale shops and restaurants in the 8th (George V area).

There are a number of hotels along rue Jacob, including Hotel des Marronniers, which you might find for around 200€ per night for two. You might also check just a bit to the west in the area known as Le carré rive gauche, where many antique shops are located and which is a bit quieter (not so many American tourists).

Hotel Clément is probably the best value hotel in St Germain. I think it only has two stars, but it is very charming and well worth the price.

The action for this area is along rue de Buci, very lively, full of American tourists, probably even more than along rue Cler in the 7th.

If you have flexibility in your budget window for a memorable hotel stay, one of my favorites in this area is Villa Madame. Classic and understated, I could not recommend it more highly.

JR, thank you. I see that they have a hotel in St Germain, but it's outside of our budget. Will keep Relais Bosquet in mind if we change our minds about which neighbourhood to stay in.

Tocard, thank you very much. This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping to get. I am happy to hear the Hotel Clement is decent and grateful to know to avoid staying on rue Bucci.

Villa Madame looks idyllic, but it is outside our budget window. We spend so little time in any given hotel that all we are looking for is clean, comfortable rooms and a place that is well situated.

Thank you both for your feedback.

I have stayed at the Grand Hotel des Balcons many times. Family owned and run. Clean, not particularly fancy. Close to the Luxembourg Gardens, the Odeon metro, the rue de Seine, rue Buci (many restaurants), Louvre, and much more. They used to have a great breakfast buffet, but that was taken away with Covid. Hopefully it will return.

Stayed at the Balcons hotel in October 2016 and was very happy with it. Very convenient location but we found immediate area quiet. Definitely recommend it.

Thanks very much, Kateja and Shelly. That's really reassuring. It is standing out to me for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is a deal of 50% the rate on Sundays.

We stayed at Hotel Saint Paul Rive Gauche for 4 nights in early December. We stayed in their small/budget sized room but didn't mind the small size because we spent very little time in our hotel room (although it was a very cute room w/ a comfortable bed) and enough space for a couple + 2 big suitcases. The staff was friendly, and they had 24 hour front desk which I appreciate if you are arriving/departing at weird times. We had no problem with noise at night, but there were plenty of bars/restaurants nearby.

We have stayed at the Artus Hotel twice and really enjoy it. Rue de Buci is a great street with tons of things close by. (laundromat, 24/7 cafes, churches, metro stops, easy walk to the Seine).

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Clement a few years ago. It was quiet and well maintained. The location was great for exploring the 6th and it was a lovely walk to Luxemburg Gardens. There are several bistros in the area. The rooms lean toward the small side but are fine. The lift is great fun and barely holds two folks. I wanted to attach pictures of our room and the view but can't figure out how to do it.

we loved the Villa des Princes, near Odeon metro. Tiny rooms, tinier elevator, but clean, quiet, great location. Very attentive front desk, super helpful when my husband clogged the toilet. (try explaining that to someone who doesn't speak English. Wow. Being a great charades player helped) We have recommended it to several friends who also thought it perfect for them. Fits your budget.
