I'm in my mid 30's and will be traveling to France and Italy with my husband for our 10 year anniversary. Having never been to Europe, any advise would be greatly appreciated. We're staying in Paris for 5 nights and I was looking at the Hotel St. Germain, 88 rue du Bac and Hotel Henri IV, Rive Gauche. Any advice or suggestions regarding these two hotels? Thank you in advance!
I have stayed in neither but know the areas. I would stay at the Saint Germain because the area is centrally located but relatively quiet. The Henri IV, Rive Gauche is on a busy street in an area that I find to be almost totally given over to tourists -- the area north of Blvd Saint German, east of Blvd St Michel, south of the river. You will have the advantage of easy access major transit hubs and an easy walk to Notre Dame. It all depends on if you want to step right out of your hotel into the midst of it all or if like me, you prefer a quieter neighborhood when you step out of your door.
Thank you for your reply! It was very helpful. With your advice, I just booked Hotel St. Germain for September.
I am glad I found this thread, as we have booked at the same hotel in July!
We have booked an apartment in St Germain for our 7 day stay in October and I am super excited about staying in this area. I went onto google maps and started planning my walking/metro route and was so happy to see how close we are to a few of the major sights, within walking distance. Have fun!
