I am trying to lock in my hotel choice for a 10 day trip to Paris in April. I’ve narrowed it down to Hotel Signature or Hotel Millesime. Both get good reviews. The Hotel Signature immediate location is less familiar to me - and that could be interesting. Hotel Millesime is on Rue Jacob which people seem to love. I’ve stayed near Rue Buci on a past trip and I loved it but wish to pick a different hotel. If you have advice, I’d love to hear it. Merci!
I’ve stayed at both. I like Hotel Signature Saint Germain better but both are excellent. I’d stay at either at the drop of a hat. The reason I like the Signature better is the staff — not saying anything negative about the Millesime’s staff, it’s that the front desk person at the Signature is one of the nicest people I have met in Paris. Also for you given that you stayed on Rue de Buci last time, how about staying in a different area this time? That would favor staying at the Signature.
We stayed at the sister property of Hotel Signature in April. It's two doors down from Hotel Signature. It's a nice neighborhood. There is a metro station nearby. There's a little neighborhood park around the corner...in July while watching the Today show, Ina Garten had taken the cast to her favorite neighborhood farmer's market and then they went to the park to eat. Same park! However, I will mention that across the street (it is a very narrow one way street) is a huge hideous government looking building. It is actually a public school, so if school is in session it may be very hectic around there in the morning and afternoon. We happened to stay during their spring break, so it didn't impact us at all. (Technically, there is a beautiful building immediately across from Hotel Signature. The school is next to that building.)
Hotel Millesime looks intriguing and beautiful.
Thank you so much KD and JHK. This is great information. I realize that the two hotels are just 1km apart, but I don't get to go to Paris often (I need to change that!) and I was very curious about the Hotel Signature. It sounds fun to try a new area. I like the idea of having the Grand Epicerie so close. Thanks for the good words about the staff and the nearby park. I remember now that Ina Garten's Paris flat is in that neighborhood near Blvd Raspail. I've always suspected she would want to meet me and shop at the Sunday organic market together - ha! Thanks again.
Jan, let me also add... We asked the front desk about suggestions for a brasserie that wouldn't require a reservation. I hadn't planned ahead for our first night. They gave us a couple of names...one was Cafe Varenne. We arrived without a reservation, as did a couple who spoke fluent French; who I assumed may have been local. MAKE A RESERVATION. But the owner was so absolutely gracious and welcoming and we had the best Beef Bourguignon dinner.
If you run into Ina tell her I said hello!
Hello, we love Hotel Signature Saint Germain and plan to enjoy my fourth stay during December.
However, the convenience of the two nearby metro stations means that there is some metro noise in the lower rooms.
I travel with custom ear plugs for sleep so I'm not bothered, but you should be aware.
The staff is wonderful, especially the gentlemen who work the front desk during the evening.
I second the Cafe Varenne recommendation. It is one of my favorite places on the Left Bank. Also near Le Signature Saint Germain if you are looking for classic French food, is A la Petite Chaise which I think is quite good. It feels like an old fashioned kind of space. Josephine Chez Dumonet is a 15-minute walk away and that is another lovely place for a meal.
Okay, this thread is just screaming out for my Ina Garten story. I’d arrived in Paris that day. We went to Chez Dumonet for dinner and who plopped down next to me? Ina Garten and Geoffrey. This was maybe 2010.
She was as gracious as you’d expect. Geoffrey was less so, but he seemed shy, not standoffish. She proceeded to chat me up all through dinner. Lovely!
HappyToBeHere - yes, you had to jump in. Great story! Thanks Jules for your helpful comments about Hotel Signature. KD and JHK - love the restaurant recommendations. Cafe Varenne and Chez Dumonet are added to my google map and my dining list. I appreciate this information very much.
I'm adding these to Tocard's great restaurant suggestions lower down on this post that I have saved:
