Hotel Recommendations Strasbourg and Colmar

Interested to see if anyone has any recommendations for lodging in either Strasbourg and Colmar (nearby town works too). Planning on staying two nights in Strasbourg then to Colmar for one night.
Looking at possibly staying at Hotel Cathedrale in Strasbourg ...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Instead of staying in Colmar, stay in one of the much more charming wine villages such as
Riquewehr. We stayed at Hotel a l’Oriel.
Honestly, we were glad we didn’t stay in Colmar.
We loved Strasbourg but don’t recall name of hotel.

I agree with Suki that the smaller towns around Colmar are more charming if you’re just staying one night there. My favorite was Eguisheim.

If you are staying in Colmar because you’re traveling by train, we stayed at Hotel St. Martin in the center of the tourist area.

In 2015, we were very happy with the Hotel Hannong in Strasbourg. The current reviews on TripAdvisor are consistent with our experience.

The Hotel Rohan is about 50 meters from the Cathedral so it’s convenient to most tourist sites. Nice room, good staff, nice restaurant in the hotel for breakfast or a quick bite. The TI is just to the left of the Cathedral and they have a very good audio walking tour of the old city and offer a Strasbourg pass which can be a money saver if you want to visit the main sites of the city. For a great lunch, try Porcus at 6, Place du Temple Neuf. It’s on the floor above their wonderful charcuterie and i’d make reservations. For a very good choucroute and other traditional Alsatian specialties, try Restaurant Au Pont Corbeau, 21, quai Saint-Nicolas. Interesting Alsatian Museum right next door.

I’d stay just in Strasbourg and do a day trip to Colmar.

We really liked the Hotel Cathedrale in Strasbourg. The staff there was great. The Hotel St. Martin in Colmar is also really nice. You can’t go wrong with either of these choices.

Hi Jean and Suki -
How did you go from Colmar to the smaller towns? We will be taking at train from Strasbourg to Colmar. How long is the trip to the smaller towns?
Thank you for any other tips you have to share on this!

Hi,

We reserved the half-day village tour with Ophorus Excursions & Tours for Sunday afternoon. The villages were all so cute! He even drove us down to Eguisheim - a request from a fellow tour mate, which ended up being my favorite village. The guide shared a lot of info about the region, WWII, the wine, etc. We had 5 of us with him in a minivan. I would definitely recommend this tour.

When I was passing through Colmar, I stayed at the James Boutique Hotel for one night and would recommend it. Clean, modern, fairly central, and family run. Looking at tripadvisor, it's ranked #1 which is not surprising. As I remember the story, the head of the family moved to France from Portugal as a youth, made a name as a soccer player, and then had a long career in construction before building the hotel.

Depending on why you are wanting to stay in Colmar, it might be more interesting to stay in one of the very nearby towns, especially Eguisheim. It is an extremely pretty town, google it. As far as hotels there, I've heard nice things about L'Auberge Alsacienne. If you stay in Colmar look at when you are going when you are deciding where to stay.
