Hotel recommendations in Strasbourg and Paris (Rue Cler or similar) in July

Our family is taking our first European vacation and would like recommendations of somewhere to stay in Strasbourg and Paris, in July. Our daughters are 10 and 8 are 10. Kids can share a bed/pull out.

Strasbourg: Prefer somewhere central and that serves breakfast. Ideally not a chain hotel here.I’d like somewhere close to the center but quiet in the morning as well . Budget, less than $400/night.

Paris: My husband loves the feel of Rue Cler area because he likes the quietness and calm after a day of sightseeing. (We stayed in the Latin Quarter our first trip and Rue Cler 2 others). I know it’s not ideal for transportation but I’d consider another similar area. Last time he and I went we stayed at Hotel 7 Eiffel which was great but didn’t seems too kid friendly. Air conditioning is a must. Budget would ideally be less than $500/night but I have flexibility too.I’d be okay with an anparthotel too. After Paris we are heading to Disneyland Paris if that is a consideration too.

Thanks in advance.

In Paris, don't discount staying in the very center of the city. The Hotel des Deux-Iles is as centrally located as can be on Ile St. Louis. Not sure what their rates are now, but you can check it out using several web sites. There are also a couple of other hotels on the same street, and one of them is a sister hotel. If you cross the river you will be in the Marais -- cross it the other way and you'll be in The Latin Quarter. Walk to the end of the island, cross the bridge, and you'll be at the back of Notre Dame -- such as it is now as some of the immediate area is closed off. At night it is still a quiet, calm street with just moderate activity. The Metro is near enough that getting anywhere is not a problem. There are also several restaurants on the island. If you decided to stay there, we can steer you to a great little place for breakfast as all hotel breakfasts seem to be over priced for what one gets. We can also tell you about several places for lunch and / or dinner on the island as well.

That looks like a great place, unfortunately they are booked for our dates (July 11-16) but I will look at other hotels in the area. And I would love breakfast recommendations as well, just in case.

I stayed in a junior suite with my 10 y/o twin boys at the La Bourdonnais in the Rue Cler area (https://www.hotellabourdonnais.com/en). It’s a bit over your budget, but worth it. Additionally, I’ve recommended it to friends and family who all enjoyed their stays. Nearby, is a nice bistro, Le 7ème Vin (https://restaurant7emevin.fr/). It’s casual and small, but you need reservations at least a couple of days in advance, especially in July. They were very kind to our children, and while they don’t have a children’s menu (few restaurants in France do), they suggested (off menu) and prepared roasted chicken and fries, which they split between the two of them. Also close by is the Ecole Militaire metro stop which will get you connected to anywhere you might want to go. Our boys loved going up in the Eiffel Tower and also the Pompidou museum (funky exterior, modern art). We found the trick of traveling with young children was not planning more than one activity in the morning and then one in the afternoon. Also, we let them bring a book to read in restaurants and museums (no video games!), so that when they had their fill of food or art, they could read while my husband and I could finish our bottle of wine or take in a bit more of the museum. Oh, and there’s a nice playground in the Champs de Mars park, close to the La Bourdonnais. Gather a picnic and go enjoy a little down time. Probably more info than you wanted, but that’s just me. 😉

If you do find a place on Ile St. Louis (or a place close by), there are several place to eat you might want to check out. For breakfast, there is a place named St. Regis. Croissant, coffee, and juice for very little money. Even had a small plate of cold cuts and wine one evening. On the same street is Café Med which is good for lunch. Still farther down the same street is L'Orangerie & Auberge de la Reine Blanche which is good for a semi fancy dinner. Reservations are a good idea. And don't miss the chocolate ice cream which is in the same block (other side of the street) from L'Orangerie. If you fool around with google maps, you might be able to use street view and "walk" to them before you ever leave home. Enjoy!

In Strasbourg check out Hotel Arok. It has a very nice breakfast, is an easy walk to everything, and your kids will enjoy the vibe. Also,
Relais Bosquet by Rue Cler is a great hotel, It also has a family room. We absolutely love it. Easy walk to Eiffel Tower, the River, Rue Cler, and many sights.
