Hotel recommendations in St Germain (des Prais)

My wife and I were all set - or so we thought -- with Hotel de Fleurie (stayed there 10 years ago; excellent location), until we read some bad reviews regarding bed bugs last summer and poor customer service in response (crazy me, the latter bothered me more as that is something they fully control).

One of those reviews raved about a Hotel Madison, which is very close to where we planned to stay -- has anyone stayed there?
I would also appreciate any other recommendations close by.

Our time in Paris will be split into two...the first part is a very short stay; a nice place very close to Musee d'Orsay would also be welcome for that first portion.

Thank you!

Thank you Marco & Windyram!

Wow- Hôtel Université Saint Germain des Prés has no availability for our first part of the vacation.

Hotel des Deux Continents looks very nice, and the location is perfect!

Best regards

We stayed here last spring. It was wonderful. Our room was right next to the room Hemingway had stayed in! Lovely boutique hotel, good breakfast, helpful staff. And the location was perfect. We were able to walk (almost) everywhere. Plenty of dining options. Two blocks to the Seine, maybe 4 blocks to the Luxembourg Gardens. The Louvre, Sainte Chappell and Notre Dame were all an easy walk. We were so pleased that we chose this hotel.

Just know this, hotel d'Angleterre, brilliant history, but no AC (no idea when you intend to travel) and no coffee/tea facilities in your room.

I stayed at the Hotel Left Bank on Rue de l'Ancienne Comédie in Saint Germain with my two teen/tween grandkids when I was there in April of last year. I loved the location, and the hotel was very nice with a charming vibe to it. There is a small lift and the hotel has A/C.

Our room was a triple, very clean, with two single beds placed side by side (you can put them together to make a double), and another single (not a sofa bed) in a more secluded area of the room. This was nice as it gave my grandson (who slept in the single) a bit of privacy. The room was spacious and very clean, and there were coffee and tea-making supplies, along with a kettle.

The breakfast was an additional cost, but when I booked the hotel direct, they were offering it at a discount for €5 pp, so we got breakfast both mornings, and it was quite good. There were not only breads and pastries, but creamy scrambled eggs, crisp sausage links, fruit, cereal, yogurt, and tomatoes and cucumbers.

The location was outstanding. It was a block from the Odeon Metro stop, about a 10 minute walk to Pont Neuf and Notre Dame, and it was very convenient to sights, cafes, boulangeries, pastry shops and much more. We only had to walk out the front door to find food and drink options everywhere.

Our family loves Hôtel Signature Saint Germain des Près. signature-saintgermain.com
We read many positive reviews on this forum.
When I'm traveling solo I stay in their sister property. maisonchomel.com
Both have a/c, beautiful decor and exceptional customer service and are about a 10 minute walk to Musee d'Orsay.

Thank you Mardee and Jules
(and thank you to everyone who has responded so far; the places look nice...I am surprised how some are already booked with no availability for our planned days in Paris)

Steve, places in Paris and other parts of Europe, book up very, very early.

We travel in October usually and always book by November or December of the previous year. This gives the best prices and the best hotel and room choice.

I have been looking at hotels in Porto, Portugal, for late October and most are already fully booked. Luckily I am only after an idea of pricing as we won't go until next year, but everywhere decent books very quickly.

Second Mardees suggestion. In fact we just left there a couple of weeks ago. Hotel Left Bank St. Germain is in a FANTASTIC location, wonderful restaurants all around, and we discovered our favorite little Italian place just around the corner. We spent about two weeks here and hated leaving. Staff i wonderful, great breakfast deal. Our usual place, Relais Bosquet was booked, and Mardee suggested this place. No regrets whatsoever. There are so many restaurant options, anything you want steps away. Easy walk to Notre Dame, the Seine, and Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots are close by. We loved the area and would definitely stay again. When we first booked some dates, they were full for some of the time we wanted, but cancellations do happen. We were able to secure our entire stay watching the reservations. We booked a triple room and a single (double bed) for the entire stay.

JR, so glad to hear that! I really liked the hotel, but of course you just never know if others will, so I appreciate you coming back here and mentioning this. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. And two weeks in Paris! Oh, I'm so jealous. Maybe next year. 😊

Thank you DebH

Actually, I agree -- although I was surprised that a large city such as Paris would be booked 6 months ahead in October, rather than summer. I guess it makes sense for smaller establishments that have received positive reviews and are good values. The good news is we took care of our Normandy lodging several months ago.

A key tip to others, especially smaller destinations (e.g., Normandy) or somewhere such as Edinburgh especially in the summer.

In this case, we thought we had our Paris lodging all set as well...then the issue I mentioned at the start of my post came to our attention and hence the scramble.

Best regards,
Steve

Another good one is Jardin de Cluny is nice. Quiet pedestrian street. Easy access to things close to a police station. 40 room boutique hotel. Book directly on their website for best price.

Thank you phred

Interestingly, it appears they are owned by the same group that owns Hotel Left Bank (the company owns 8 properties per the website)

I stayed at the Citidines St. Germain-des-Pres and was very satisfied. The location is excellent, a lot of things are within walking distance.
